The bimbos unite at The Marmalade Pantry

It was a rather impromptu dinner meet up with the bimbos. Dear xtina realised that she hasn't been seeing all of us for a long time due to her frequent tavelling for work and decided to gather us for dinner. Absentee: bimbo gera

It was my first time at Marmalade Pantry. The food was fine. Nothing to shout about and nothing to write about. It's the company that mattered. =)

We kept laughing so loudly that people around us might have thought we were truly bimbotic. It was a short but fun night!

Bimbos unite!

BTW, xtina is gonna do something courageous. Being inspired by little Charmaine's fight against cancer, she's gonna shave her head for the Hair for Hope event this July.

Hair for Hope is an event which invites members of the public to shave their heads to show their support for children with cancer. Through this symbolic gesture, HfH aim to:

1. Create awareness of childhood cancer in Singapore

2..Show to children with cancer and their families that they are not alone in their fight against cancer.

3. Boost the self-esteem of children undergoing chemotherapy by sending the message that that there is nothing wrong in losing their hair or being bald.

4. Raise funds to help children with cancer and their families

5. Build a community of support for children with cancer and their families.

HfH is the only head-shaving event in Singapore that serves to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer. Every shaven head represents an understanding by an individual of the ordeals that a child with cancer is subjected to. HfH also provides opportunity to garner support from the public in the form of monetary pledging. HfH then brings a two-fold contribution: raising awareness and funds for CCF beneficiaries.

Shaving one's head may be commonplace for some but I think it takes a lot for a lady to shave her head. Do support her cause. Click on this

Out of mainland and onto Pulau Ubin

"Pulau Ubin is in essence, the last 'kampung' (village) in Singapore. A stroll through Ubin takes you back to Singapore in the 1960's with the simpler pleasures of life. The slow lane starts as soon as you join the queue for the bumboat at Changi. As you arrive, all cares are left behind." -- Wild Singapore

Believe it or not. That was my maiden trip to Pulau Ubin. Each time I plan for a trip to Ubin, it would rain that day so I stopped wanting to go there. Fabs who isn't even local goes there to cycle almost every other weekend and invited us to join him that Sunday.

On the bumboat

Setting foot at Ubin

We, ourselves and bikes

After cycling for a while, we parked our bikes and headed for Chek Jawa, an intertidal flat on Pulau Ubin.

The sight of a "cottage" first greeted us. Better known as House No. 1 at Ubin, it now serves as the Chek Jawa Visitor Centre.

We spent quite some time at Chek Jawa boardwalk trail.

"The beauty of Chek Jawa is that several different ecosystems can be seen in one small area. These ecosystems and the plants and animals found there are no longer common in Singapore. They are also fast disappearing elsewhere in the world." -- Wild Singapore

Tried very hard to snap a bigger and clearer pic of the cute crabs with only one big pincer each but this is the furthest I could zoom.

It has indeed been an enriching tour for me. I discovered many things there and I could not wait to share my knowledge with my Science class. Chek Jawa is often cited as examples and case studies in the ecosytems and environment chapters. Reading about Chek Jawa and experiencing Chek Jawa sure is a whole lot of difference.

For clear pictures and description of Chek Jawa and its wonderful ecosystem, go to this site. The author had certainly put in lots of effort in writing this informative post.

Next, we climbed the Jejawi tower -- a 7-storey tall observatory tower

We stood there for quite a while snapping photos and enjoying the cool breeze until more people came up.

The famous Ubin quarry

When the sun set, we trudged towards the direction where food could be found and tucked into a hearty meal.

Back to mainland all exhausted by the day's happenings

Tiff got herself a new Hello Kitty white polaroid camera and so we started playing with it.

Impromptu meet up with Regina

I love spontaneity! I don't know how this dinner meet up came about but I reckon it's due to blur reg flushing her contacts down the sink and nerdy jo being in town on the day she collected her new lenses.

She recommended Ayam Bakar Ojolali at Lucky Plaza. From what I gather, Ayam Bakar Ojolali serves the most authentic Indonesian grilled chicken in Singapore and I've to agree that their food was indeed delicious.

Reg suggested I order their chef speciality -- a dish known as "Ayam Bakar" since she had already tried it before while she ordered the fried chicken. We also ordered keropok and beef ball soup to share and pinky drinks coz gals love pinky drinks don't we?

My grilled chicken was succulent and deeply drenched by the special spices from the skin to the meat. Yummy! I wiped the entire plate so clean, the staff there needn't even wash it.

As for my drink, I ordered the Es Ojolali which is an iced pink coconut drink with pieces of succulent coconut flesh swirling in it. I love coconut drinks but I'm always lazy to scrape the milky white flesh off tough coconuts. This drink is defnitely for lazy people like me. Reg opted for the Happy Soda -- a concoction of Bandung and soda which she said was one of the better ones that she had tried so far.

Thumbs up for this little Indonesian eatery tucked away at some inconspicous corner at Lucky Plaza.

Reg surprised me with a packet of Cadbury eggs explaining that it was for Easter.

I got her an extremely belated birthday present in the form of a pair of earrings.

She's learning how to cook so aren't my cook book and cooking utensils apt?

Eyes are the window to the soul

For people with souless eyes like yours truly, fortunately we can rely on make up to accentuate our peepers.

I'm a mascara freak. My basic make up needs are mascaras and eyeliners. I can do without the foundation.

Currently using all of these...

Yes I just mentioned I'm a mascara freak... I know I am. My friends always tell me I've only got two eyes... but I just can't stop myself from trying out mascaras. Knowing my love for mascaras, friends tend to give me mascaras as gifts too.

From left to right:
Rimmel Sexy Curves
Estee Lauder TURBOLASH-All Effects Motion Mascara
Canmake Glamorous Fur
Maybelline Define-A-Lash (not available in sg)
Sasa Super Dolly
Koji Spring Heart Long and Separate
Covergirl Lash Blast Length (not available in sg)

Of course I don't use 7 of them all at the same time but I like to use 2 or 3 of them together.

In the past, I get lots of people asking me about the mascaras I use but with the recent trend in applying false lashes even on a daily basis, I get lesser of such questions now coz my mascaraed lashes could never look as long as other people's fake lashes. =(

Covergirl Lash Blast Length doesn't blast the lashes plump. Neither does it contribute to length. It's really not a good mascara on its own. However, it acts as an excellent base. The brush is divine. It's small and made of rubber and hence it catches every single bit of lash -- even those at the corners -- glides very smoothly over them, coating them thinly and evenly. I love the feel and sound of the gliding brush against my lashes.

With all lashes evenly coated comes the next step: Applying Estee Lauder TURBOLASH-All Effects Motion Mascara or Maybelline Define-A-Lash or Sasa Super Dolly or BrowLash EX which I recently purchased.

Look at the shape of the brush! BrowLash EX works exactly like how the pictures depict.I always love how Jap brand mascaras deliver what they promise.

Estee Lauder TURBOLASH-All Effects Motion Mascara's bristles look criss cross and untidy but the vibrating effect ensures that each lash is coated with a fan shaped effect. It works really well with the Covergirl one as a base.

Maybelline Define-A-Lash plumps up the lashes without clumping. It's one of the BEST maybeline mascaras around. Maybelline always smudges big time on me. Not this though. Too bad it's not available in sg. I bought it to try when I was in New York coz the mascaras in the drugstores there are so cheap! I bought the Covergirl one there too.

Sasa Super Dolly is touted as Sasa's best selling mascara so I bought it to try. It has a revolutionalised rubber brush which can bend to fit the contour of the eye. The SA told me it's the only rubber brush mascara available in here in Singapore. After the first try, I don't like this mascara at all. The consistncy is quite thick and runny. Its effects messy and clumpy. Nothing dolly about it at all except the thickness of the lashes. I tend to accidentally paint it onto my lids due to its consistency. With constant practice, I am now able to not rant so much about it.

The last step would be to coat the lower lashes. Rimmel Sexy Curves is not a good mascara for upper lashes. I looked like I had nothing on my lashes despite applying a few coats. It's super dry too so lots of time is spent to coat the lashes. It works wonders for the lower lashes though so I started using it as my lower lash mascara. I was so glad I didn't let this go to waste!

Canmake Glamorous Fur is one of those mascaras which I repurchased... meaning it is really good. Jap brand mascaras are that good. That tube you see up there is empty. I can't seem to locate this series on the shelf anymore. I hope they haven't discontinued it.

Koji Spring Heart Long and Separate is cheap but a great disappointment. The brush is big and fat; it wasn't able to lengthen and separate at all. Moreover, the consistency is too dry. I wonder if the tube I bought is nearing its expiry date but no. Koji retractable eyeliner is GOOD though. It's cheap at only $9.90 and I think I may be into my tenth pencil or something.

Ending this post with images of pretty girls with smokin' eyes coz everyone loves pretty girls (with smokin' eyes) rite?

I should consider getting a job as a mime artist

I'm losing my voice so often that I should consider getting a job as a mime artist.

This time the infection is attacking my larynx (voicebox) and pharynx. As usual, it brought along its loyal gang of frenz namely cough, cold and headache.
