Happy 49th Birthday Singapore!

Happy 49th Birthday Singapore! I've been humming and singing National Day songs on and off the whole day. Patriotic? Nah... Just love Singapore too much. This photo is a throwback of 3 years ago when I painted our Singapore flag on my short stubby nail beds haphazardly with no manicure tools.

I happened to tap into Instagram just now and found out that our Mediacorp darling Fann Wong has just delivered a National Day baby. How apt! Congratulations to Fann Mommy and Christopher Daddy!

It took this celebrity couple five long years to have a baby and I'm so happy for them that when I read the article on their joys and heartbreak of their baby-making journey, I teared uncontrollably.

There isn't a 2014 National Day Parade theme song this year. Only a mash up version of We Will Get There (2002 NDP theme) and One People, One Nation, One Singapore (1990 NDP theme) sung by young local singers. Not too bad but I do not quite like how I could never hear the chorus for We Will Get There since that portion was replaced by One People, One Nation, One Singapore.

Original: We Will Get There by Sun Yanzi (2002 NDP theme).

Original: One People, One Nation, One Singapore (1990 NDP theme).

Other than these 2 songs, there are so many NDP songs which I like coz they bring back lots of memories of my younger days. Singapore is really very different now than from the past and NDP songs certainly stir the nostalgia in me.

    1. Ooooh, Lilli. I would love to meet up with you if ever we are in each other's home town. I think it would be really fun! Thank you for your sweet words always. Ah, Fann Wong is better known in the West as her role in Shanghai Knights as Jackie Chan's sister and Olwen Wilson's love interest.

  6. Hi Joe!
what a cute post, I'm originally from Peru and our national independence day was on July 28, even though I'm far away I wore my Peruvian soccer shirt all day and went through the news just to see a little bit more of Peru. So, I know how it feels, to be far away but still missing your country. Thanks for sharing!
    XOXO

    1. Oh when I was crafting this post, I'm in my country Singapore. Still, it's nice to hear your thoughts, Milu, coz I would miss my country whenever I'm too long time away from it.

  7. You sound like you're patriotic, it's good to love your country. The idiotic US educational system has forgotten that.

Tell Singapore not to worry about turning 50. Just relax and enjoy the next year. :)

    1. US is far too big to be as cohesive as Singapore which is such a small country. LOL... Singapore's 50th birthday would be a blast. As soon as its 49th birthday is over, the next year's NDP team is already planning for the 50th anniversary.
