An Exceptionally Emo Halloween

Hi boils and ghouls,

As seen from my previous post, I'm still in an emo rut though I'm trying my very best to normalize myself and not dwell in more negativism.

Some of you might know that it is a tradition for my bimbo sisters and me to celebrate Halloween together annually, opening the invitation to our own groups of friends to join us as well.

I enjoy myself every single Halloween and I dare say that my bimbo sisters and I enjoy the whole make up process a lot more than the partying itself.

This year, our theme was The Girls with the Dragon Tattoo. I was an emo kia aka emo kid involved in some slashing and slitting.

Here is my before photo just as I left my house on halloween Saturday to prepare for the next round of make up at Bimbo Xtina's house and my after photo at the club. It was the first time I wore a wig for halloween all thanx to my ex colleague for lending me her fabulous short hair wig.

Photobucket

Bimbo Jo was so emo that day that she contemplated telling the rest of her bimbo sisters that she would very much like to stay at home and slit her wrist. Alas, she knew that since Bimbo Tiff had pulled out due to last minute work commitment, she could not afford to abandon her beloved bimbos at the eleventh hour. Besides, Bimbo Jo was the make up artist aka the wound specialist.

Photobucket

Xtina's hubby, Lester had been such a great help to us. Before we trooped over to her place, he prepared the dough for our wounds beforehand. He also helped us to do various tasks while our hands were dirty. Such a sweet hubby.

Here is Xtina's beloved hubby taking a break on his cocoon swing and watching Supernatural on TV.

Photobucket

The home-made blood I made beforehand looked just like blood but when painted over the dough, the red became bubble-gum red. Bimbo Zanne said it looked like she had long lips on her forearm.

Photobucket

Bimbo Xtina used the hair dryer to blow the wetness away for my next step of creating depth to the wound. She looked sooooo sweet here and not at all like how garang she should be in her jumpsuit attire.

Photobucket

My tummy problem was acting up and I was in quite intense pain so I asked for a mug of cereal. Thanx to Lester again for "being so useful" around the house. In the meantime, Xtina helped me with my wound.

Photobucket

Our scars! You could see the difference between mine and theirs. Mine was just with the fake blood painted on while Zanne and Xtina's wounds had undergone my depth creation process with old eye shadows.

Photobucket

Funny moment:
When I was done with the cereal drink and partial drying of my wound, I asked if Zanne or Xtina could help me with the depth creation of my wound. (Our make-up artist Bimbo Gera had not arrived at that time.)
Zanne had no confidence and muttered, "I failed art in school.
Xtina claimed she was not confident to help me paint as her work might not be up to my standards. In the end, I prepared all the eye shadows and tissue paper in front of me as I lifted my left forearm and shaded my wound with a cotton bud using my right hand.
Please tell me it wasn't too bad after all.

Photobucket

Soon, Bimbo Gera arrived with her boyfriend and another friend whom we were also acquainted with.

Gera's bf, Clement had a creepy alien bursting out from his abdomen.

Photobucket

Look at the sweet couples helping their other halves with the make up process.

Photobucket

No, this was not part of the sweet couple. We told Zep that he had to be made up in order to join us for halloween so I helped him with his "bubble gum" creation. He did not want to undergo the depth creation process and hence his wound looked just like a huge piece of bubble gum.

Photobucket

I had been waiting for Gera to help me put on my wig as I was totally clueless. Everyone said I looked very cute with my hair tied like that and requested for me to do a cutesy pose. After that, the hair was pinned down and covered with a hair net.

Photobucket

The birth of Emo Kia!

Photobucket

I liked that my hair was all over my face. However, I had to paint blood onto my face and so had to sweep the fringe aside.

Photobucket

Gera decided to uglify herself by drawing on devil's eyebrows.

Photobucket

Don't mess with me!

Photobucket

A super random photo with no focal point.

Photobucket

We did some finishing touches before we readied ourselves to head out.

Photobucket

Presenting the girls with the dragon tattoo! Bei was unable to join us for partying but she had so much fun watching the make up process and snapping photos.

Photobucket

The witching hour... we were all ready to head out! We wonder if anybody else heads out so late for halloween.

Photobucket

Photobucket

There was a long queue but fortunately, we were able to get into Zouk as Clement was able to bring us in separately.

Photobucket

The theme was doll house. I hate scary dolls and I hate that my camera died on me after this shot! All shots after this was taken with my iPhone. Actually some shots of the make up process were taken by Bei and Xtina's mobile phones. The photo quality looked quite good but I do not know what phones they use.

Photobucket

The bimbos minus Tiff. Sorry, I meant the girls with dragon tattoos. Hey, where were our dragons?

Photobucket

Gera looked every bit the fierce dragon girl.
Zanne looked like a vampire with her red eyes.
Xtina had maggots on the wound (courtesy of her lovely hubby's work).
Jo was just plain emo kia.

Photobucket

We helped Clement yank the alien out from his body and he died an unfortunate death.

Photobucket

There were creepy broken dolls in those compartments.

Photobucket

Gera was heartbroken that Clement died and decided to follow his soul out of Zouk. The music was really bad at Zouk that night; we could barely groove to the beat. We bade the lost souls goodbye and continued our party at Wine Bar. Zep a freelance photographer was our unofficial photographer that night and he "scoffed" at my iPhone but I must say that for iPhone, the photos turned out not too badly. Could it be Zep's skills as well?

Photobucket

Garang Xtina and Emojo... Emo Jo.

Photobucket

"Please smile for the camera."

Photobucket

Emo Kia and Zanne the Vamp... actually I do not know what her fake id was that day but she looked just like a vampire. Gotta love her red contacts!

Photobucket

Don't forget our dragon tattoos!

Photobucket

While Emojo was outside of the club emo-ing alone, a mother and daughter pair kept eyeing me. The area outside Zouk was an inappropriate area to have a decent mother and daughter pair milling around. I thought I was in their way so I often moved aside but they were always a few steps away. Finally, the mother took out her iPad and asked if her daughter could have a picture taken with me. There were so many people in costume outside so I did not quite understand why the little girl wanted a picture with me. She probably liked my wounds. After snapping on her iPad, I passed my phone to the lady to snap a picture for my own collection as well.

Photobucket

I guess my condition and mood was so affected that I did not quite enjoy this year's halloween. The rest of them also decided to call it a day as the music really sucked. There we were outside Zouk before we headed back.

Photobucket

Away from the Zouk crowd and outside Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.

Photobucket

How could we forget our lovely Zep photographer for the night? I was just wondering, do photographers usually dread being in front of the camera?

Joke for the night on repeat just to annoy Zep:
Zep, did you like put on 10kg since we last saw you?

Photobucket

Full length shot of Zanne and her eyeballing-on-the-bus stockings.

Photobucket

Xtina and her very garang contractor jumpsuit tied at the waist.

Photobucket

I could do an outfit shot with this photo:
 Max Mara black fringed dress
 Black boots from Bangkok

Photobucket

We had to go back to Xtina's house to get my stuff and at her void deck, we came across a sweet and gentle little kitty. The flashed version of the kitty's eyes reminded me of the eyes of the people in Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart MV.

Photobucket

Cam-whoring shots before I removed my wig... Hey it is not every day that I have short hair so just lemme cam whore.

Photobucket

The emojo phase reigns on... way after Halloween.

  2. The bimbo sisters did a great job with everything. Almost. There was one failure. Gera tried to uglify, but failed. Some things are just impossible. :)

  3. oh wow great halloween costumes! you and your friends look amazing and really intense too haha :)

    oh and to answer your question.. no i don't really walk the streets with my high heels.. that isn't good for your shoes OR your feet and back. i tend to only wear them out to dinner.. not if i know i'll be walking a lot.. there are some shoes i can walk for a couple of hours in though.. that's my YSL's and my Brian Atwoods.. but like my louboutins.. sometimes even walking from valet into restaurant hurts my feet!!

  8. Hey Jo! I love your outfit that you wore for halloween. i wouldn't mind wearing an outfit like that on any day! haha. the bloody scars look absolutely amazing!

    Oh, and I just read your previous blog post on your 11:11 make a wish one. :) I hope you feel better. With your tummy aches and all... I don't know how that feels like, but I really do hope you find a cure for it for good... I have been feeling a bit down lately too! It's a weird feeling coming from somebody like me who is always looking on the brighter side of things. But I am glad to find that I am not alone and to read posts from bloggers like you that are experiencing humanly things also.

    Haha, thank you for your suggestions on things to watch. I used to watch The Simpsons all of the time when I was 10 and under, hahaha, to find out now that I was too young to be watching adult humor like that. I've been searching for funny things to watch just to get a laugh out of it. Right now I am stuck on the Comedy Central tv network and there are a lot of funny movies that are playing! Haha, last night I watched the Wedding Crashers and got a crack up out of that. Haha, I watched a few episodes of Modern Family too, it's pretty funny. I think I know how you feel when you stated that it is hard not having your hubby around. It probably has that same effect on me since I am in a long distance relationship and since this is traveling season, flight prices go way up there, which is so depressing because I'm trying to save money. I'm just trying to keep myself positive in life in general. I will come around it and I know you will too. :) I believe you are much stronger than you know you are!

    Anyway take care my dear, I hope you feel a lot better soon. :)

  9. Haha I love the pics!! And sounds like you had a lot of fun ^^
    The scars look real, specially yours with that depth effect, aww.. I wish I celebrated Halloween!
    And I fell in love with your wig, with the red lenses of your friend and with the creepy alien! XD

  14. great costumes jo! your friend with the creepy alien baby coming out of his tummy remembers me a lot of a recent movie that i've watched called Prometheus. Not sure if you know it but that actually happens in the movie!

    in case you haven't checked my response on my blog post here is my comment:
    thank you Jo <3 I'm glad your found my tutorial helpful! you're very right about the glitter polishes, my acetone usually removes my polishes pretty well but glittery ones are a lot harder to come off. Sometimes I rather peel the glitter polish off my nails by myself! i find it a lot easier due to the quantity of polish layers that i have on my nails (base coat + colored polish + glitter polish + topcoat), mixed all together they create a pretty thick coat that can be easily peeled off. I'm not sure if it's the best for weak nails but mine are pretty strong after I started using my Yves Rocher anti-breakage base coat (you can search it online) and i figured acetone is probably more aggressive than peeling of my nails, anyways.
    If you have weak nails you should really try an anti-breakage base coat, after one year of usage i've notice that my nails are stronger than ever. However my nails weren't never that weak, only my forefinger nails would break, maybe because I've always have a lot of calcium in my organism. I drink milk 3 times a day and sometimes 4, that might be the reason why i never broke a bone or had very weak nails :) Maybe you should check your calcium levels? my mom always says that if you have white spots on your nails it means you need more milk, do you have those?

  16. Holy crap that alien thing scared the crap out of me O_o!!!! Sorry I had to get that out. whoaaaaaaaaaaa. lol!

    And OMG YOU GOT THE WIG!!!!! it's not exactly like the style we love but close enough!!! and may I say you look so freaking hot with this hair style!!!!!!

    I'm sorry to hear you're still feeling down =( did you at least have fun though? it looked like you did =) although you do look less carefree in those pics

    hugs =)

  17. Jo, you look great here! Your gfs all look very nice, but I like yours the best. The wig, the dress everything! Nice theme as well (Girl with the Dragon Tatt). You definitely did a good job with your wound. In fact, everyone else's look great too. You have mad skills!

    Btw, read your previous post. I'm not quite sure what to say, but just that I hope you'll heal soon and feel better. We all go through rough patches in life and this will only make us stronger. Find ways to get better and try to stay positive. I know these probably sound empty, but sometimes if we keep reminding ourselves of the beauty around us and the good things we have in our life, we'll feel better.

    Hope the check up will reveal it's nothing major.

    Rick,

    That’s sweet! I wonder if Gera would see this. My friends don’t often click into the comments page.

    ~~~
    Lisa,
    Thanx for your reply! For me, I have to wear comfort shoes. I cannot put on a really pretty pair shoes and then have my feet hurt so much such that I can’t walk properly. I love admiring shoes though. =)
    liv,
    Thank you, dear.
    Dreamy Princess,
    Thank you, dear. Haha... Boyish is cool! Me likey.
    Sharina,
    Thanx for dropping by and for following. I would check out your blog soon!
    ~~~

    Hello Naka,

    Thanx for dropping by. Yes, the alien was so freaky!

    ~~~
    Melissa,
    Thank you, dear. I love the dress too.
    And wow... almost everything part of your comment, I could identify so much with you. I was wondering if I told you I was cooped up in bed from physical and emotional pain and watching Comedy Central (a new cable channel which I happened to stumble upon) when I told you about Simpsons and South Park. Apart from the fact that I didn’t watch Modern Family and Wedding Crashers, every other parts seem so similar! I watched Simpsons when I was very young too and yeah in retrospect, I wondered how I could even be watching such cartoon when I was young.
    There was a lot of LDR in my rns with my hubby even before we got married. I completely understand how you feel, completely. One good mechanism I acquired after so many rounds of LDR in our 11-year rns is a mode switch button in me. Many people often ask me how I survive so many frequent LDR. When my hubby is away, I can automatically switch mode to become very independent. I would make use of the time he is away to accomplish lots of tasks, meet up with family and friends more often and have lots of me-time on days when it is supposed to be date nights. I keep myself so occupied that I could survive very well without him. I basically tell myself to lead a fulfilling life and be very understanding towards his work. And then when he is back, I simply switch mode to become the lovely gf and subsequently the dedicated wife.
    You could try occupying yourself more and meeting up with friends while giving yourself me-time too. However, there are occasions when the button doesn’t really work and I feel like how you do. It is indescribable. Emo, feeling a sense of loss and god knows what other negativism. Being his wife now, I’ve to be very understanding about his work—Nation above family. There are countless times when I needed him around but nation ranks #1. Not many people understand what military wives go through. Take for example, this sickness of mine. I asked a few times if he could come back earlier to be with me for my tests and scans but he could not. I even pushed my luck and asked what if I were hospitalised but he said it depends on how serious it is to be able to know whether he could be excused to come back. I do feel upset about it at times despite being very proud to have a military hubby who is so dedicated to his work.
    Anyway, I digress but I hope this sharing helps and I wanted to tell you that if you need some tips on going through LDR, you could drop me an email iamjolene (at) gmail (dot) com.
    Thank you, dear. It is always fun reading your comments and thank you for the email too. That’s really sweet.
    Bessie,
    Thank you, dear.
    ~~~

    Kim,

    Thank you dear. Haha... Rocking that wig eh? I was glad I managed to borrow the wig from my ex colleague. She rocked the wig too (when she dressed as L in the Japanese movie Death Note) and that was what gave me the idea to go in short hair this Halloween.

    ~~~
    Pop Champagne,
    Ooh... Final Fantasy. Me likey. Thank you for the compliments.
    ~~~

    20 York Street/ ML,

    Haha... Thank you. It is nice how you put it. Yeah, I was so intrigued by the alien too.

    ~~~
    Skinny Love/ Sofia,
    I watched Prometheus and I absolutely went o_O at that part coz I didn’t realised it is meant to be a so called prequel to the whole Alien chain.
    Thank you for your very detailed reply. I do peel my polish a lot too especially when they start to chip and flake. I figured peeling is a lot easier than removing with polish but oh... my nails so so weak and soft that I woneder if my peeling actually strips off any more natural layer of nails.
    ~~~

    Nic Nic,

    Thank you. Hahaha... a cutting emo. I hope I don’t degenerate into a cutting and slashing emojo.

    ~~~
    Frances,
    Hahaha... I was very intrigued by the alien. It is so freaky to have an alien bursting out from your abdomen. Yeah... the wig looked very different from my ex colleague whom I borrowed the wig from. She as dressed as L from Death Note and the wig has a different style and look on her as it did on me. I guess coz of our actually hair thickness and length too. My hair is much thicker and longer and hence made the wig look shorter and more bob-like. For her, it hung down like pointy anime hair.
    You were able to tell from the pictures?! Hahaha... Ok let’s just keep it as I was into my Halloween character. ;P
    Thank you so much for the email. I truly appreciate it.
    ~~~

    Joey,

    Thank you, dear. Mad skills? I picked them up from watching youtube. Hahaha... Improvised a little with the ingredients and there we go with our own version of blood and wound.

    I understand if you find it difficult to say anything. I sometimes wonder how to reply too. No worries and no, your words certainly aren’t empty. Even if I know and understand all these concepts, sometimes it is still good to hear people saying them out. Thanx for your concern!

  20. Hi Jo!!!

    I know I've been gone for awhile. Just took a super long break... hopefully I'll keep up with blogging this time around.

    I'm sorry to hear about your stomach pains. The only time I had stomach pains was as a kid and it was because I didn't eat enough fiber/veggies and that sort of stuff. I did however have a roommate who has a sensitive stomach. I believe it was because of her diet. She doesn't eat red meat so her body is lacking some minerals/vitamins normally found in red meat that caused her stomach pains. I remember she used to curl up in a ball some nights because of the pain. She had them as a child until present day. I think it may be a bit better now but I know she gets the occasional sharp pain.

    I hope you have positive results from your appointment. Maybe it's just stress and not eating right because of work and a busy schedule? Keep your head up and stay positive!

    I'm happy to see took time to enjoy Halloween!! I didn't do much but it looks like you have a oodles of fun dressing up and going out. It's good to keep doing things that make you happy and having good company around. Your scar creating skills are on point. I think you did an amazing job. =]

    as for Kaylee..when I was pregnant my mom told me to look at cute babies so that our baby will be cute too hahaha..i thought it was funny. I did however didnt look at negative news on baby though :D

  22. Serena,

    You are back!!! Yay! Please keep up with blogging and I really miss your visits too. Thanx dear for your sweet words.

    Thank you for sharing with me on your friend. Her pain sounds so terrible and chronic. I have a friend who suffered the same pain but after a few months, the pain just disappeared. I hope to be able to find something so at least it doesn't remain open-ended.

    ~~~
    Rick,
    Was that typed in the wrong post or were you shouting a hello to me?
    ~~~

    Yvonne,

    When you used Google+ to comment, I did not receive the notification on my email.

    Yep... That's a wig and many people suggested for me to cut short hair after seeing these photos. However, I know I can't look as cool with a real style like this coz my hair would be in my face most of the time.
