My 2 sisters are making a BALD statement this weekend

More than 2500 shavees will be making A BALD STATEMENT @ Hair for Hope 2012 main event this weekend and my two sisters are among these shavees.

Into its 10th consecutive year, Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) is organising Hair for Hope (HfH) on 28 and 29 July 2012, from 11am to 7pm (Saturday) and 11am to 6pm (Sunday) at VivoCity.

Through this symbolic gesture of shaving bald, CCF aims to:

1. Create awareness of childhood cancer in Singapore

2. Show children with cancer and their families that they are not alone in their fight against cancer

3. Tell children with cancer that it is OK to be bald

4. Raise funds to help children with cancer and their families

5. Build a community of support for children with cancer and their families

Hair for Hope is the only head-shaving event in Singapore that serves to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer. Every shaven head represents an understanding by an individual of the ordeals that a child with cancer is subjected to.

All funds raised will contribute to the $4.5 million needed annually to fund critical programmes and services for CCF’s beneficiaries.

It was totally spontaneous that both my sisters would be going for this. They did not even discuss beforehand and the next moment, both signed up for it.

Here are the links to their individual shavee page.

Besides donating to the CCF via my sisters in person like what most of us family and friends did, you could also support them by donating to the CCF online or leaving words of encouragement for them.

  3. Wow this is such a bold statement!
    I think I would not have the courage to do that myself, I'd rather donate money but my highest respect for your sisters who are making this great step! Truly inspirational.

  5. This is a great cause. I've heard of people cutting their long hair for charity (Locks of Love), but this is the first shaving. I will check out their profiles.

  6. That's incredible! Shaving one's hair is a huge change, as well, especially as women -- we so often hold our identity in our hair. I shaved my head once in 2007 and it was a very freeing experience. (I have since grown my hair out, but doing it once makes me not fearful of the idea of doing it again someday.)

  7. Wow that is super brave of them!! I don't know if I could do that.

  8. That's very commendable that your sisters would do this for such a good cause! I'd like to think that if asked, I would shave off my hair in a heartbeat, but I have a feeling my vanity wouldn't agree so easily. Kudos to them!

  9. Kim,
    Have a great mid week yourself too! =)

    Abby,
    I will let you know when I try the recipe. Have a great mid week!

    Sam Murakami,
    Thank you for leaving a note here. I love seeing newcomers around. I'm like you too. I could do lots to help but shaving my head is a huge step especially when I've kept my hair long for years. Hence, I really have respect for ladies who shave their heads for a good cause. Maybe I would do so one day when I've decided to chop off my locks.

    Ken,
    Haha... Many relatives are common friends of my sisters and me asked me the same question. Like what I told Sam above, I could do lots to help but shaving my head is a huge step especially when I've kept my hair long for years. Hence, I really have respect for ladies who shave their heads for a good cause. Maybe I would do so one day when I've decided to chop off my locks.

    Rick,
    In Singapore, we seem to have only shaving. I don't mind cutting off my locks and donating my hair for wig making but shavinng my head requires a lot of courage from me.

    ~~~
    Mandy,
    Even with your gorgeous pink hair, I can imagine you being bald. Your features are so sharp and beautiful that you would look really cool with shaven head. I have to overcome a lot should I really shave my head.
    ~~~

    MizzJ,
    Yes, they are. I don't know if I could do that too.

    ~~~
    Rinny,
    I would also say so! I think my vanity wouldn't agree so easily especially when I've been keeping my hair long over the years. On the other hand, the bimbotic side of me thinks that if I were to have sharp and beautiful features, I would not hesitate to shave my head. I've seen so many beautiful bald ladies and that's coz they have sharp features.
    Admin,
    Hi Jason. Your comment came in really useful. I have checked out your page and I think I would be promoting it to whoever who comments about recycling the hair on my Facebook page too.
    Thank you so much!
  14. Jason,
    I don't have my personal facebook fanpage. Only my own profile page. I've updated my status with a link back to your page. =)
I love reading sincere comments and hearing your voice. While blatant self promotion of blogs and follow for follow requests are not advisable, I would love if you leave a mark here with a trackback link so that I could connect with you. I reply to comments here or on your blog so don't forget to check back on replies! =)
