This draft was almost completed on Saturday and I'd initially wanted to post this up over the weekend after I was done with "stealing" some the photos from Charlene's Facebook account. Alas, I was caught up with some stuff the past few days and also with Charmaine's condition. So I'm back to posting photo-story updates of my life for now.
For those of you who found your way here searching for "Charmaine's Godma's blog" after the latest post on ourfeistyprincess, hello to all of you. (I've got a tracker k? So I know which search words you used on Google to find me.) I would like a small little request from all of you. Leave me a comment only if you have positive words for Charmaine and family, if not I would really appreciate if you read me silently. Also, please do not spread my personal blog link on forums and websites. Thank you very much. =)

Four months after her solemnization, my dear friend Charlene held her wedding dinner banquet at Grand Shanghai which was a rather charming place.
What Charlene did not know was that Cyn mommy, Jase and Charmaine would be popping by for a short while to give her a surprise.
With Charmaine's condition, Cyn mommy had to make sure that they avoided crowded places unless absolutely necessary. Hence, Charlene had the impression that she would not be seeing the trio at her wedding.
We sprang a surprise at the hotel suite where Charlene was doing her make up. Boy was she surprised!
Josh was trying to get Jase to overcome his shyness. The silly boy was overwhelmed by too many relatives in the suite.
It was also a surprise that coincidentally, one of my childhood gal friend, Gera, was there as the 2nd make up artist. Charlene related to me how she recognised Gera from photos on my blog and asked her if she was my friend! I thought that was really funny.
Since Jase was being so "shy", the girls decided to take a snapshot without him.
Soon it was time for the dinner. Cyn and the kids had to go but Charlene insisted they stay to at least have a bit of food. I had to change seats in order to be at the same table with Cyn and the kids. Since they would not be able to stay for long, the plan was to switch back to my original table after cyn and the kids left.
The next collage shows the bride and groom giving their speech and popping the champagne. Charlene removed the long train, revealing a short dress as well as her endless legs during the champagne popping.
A bevy of lovely ladies. Ha!
The lady on the left whom I shall leave her initials as C.K is such a great lady! We first knew of her as a loyal reader and supporter of ourfeistyprincess (my god daughter's blog). It was only during the months prior to the wedding preparation that Charlene and C.K found out that they are distant relatives. It was all so coincidental when the family met up before the wedding and traced back how they are actually related. Yet another coincidence!
Feisty princess Charmaine!
I love these shots! They are a little grainy though as no flash was used and I've to adjust the brightness.
After the trio left, I switched to where I was supposed to sit originally. That was one of the rare wedding dinner where I did not have a clique of friends to sit with. In addition to the fact that the hubby was overseas at that time, I felt really lost.
Charlene had specially arranged for me to sit next to her colleague whom I knew and it was another coincidence that on the other side of my seat was the brother of an ex colleague of mine. He confirmed if I was who he thought I was (he recognised me from photos and stories) and we started chatting too though we have never met before this. So instead of being alien to the rest of the guests after the trio left, I had two friends to chat with on the left and on the right. The world is really small, or is it just Singapore?
At last, I found a privileged chance to take a picture with the busy bride.
Outfit of the day:
I wore a vintage dress from DustBunny Vintage.
My pink bimbotic Fujifilm officially quit on me that day. It could not even be switched on when I whipped it out to take photos during the dinner. All the photos you see in this post were taken using cyn's camera and I got some taken by Charlene's professional photographer off her facebook album. As for the photos of my dress above. I took it with the camera charger plugged in. That's the only time the camera could function.
Loving the coincidence in life,
Jo
I realized that there will always, always be a group shot at the entrance of the restaurant. why?! lol. my friend's wedding was in may this year and we had a similar shot as yours at the entrance. lol.
ReplyDeleteHey cuz,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why. I only know 1 other person in this photo other than the couple. It so happened that the hired photographer was standing there to snap pictures of the ending shaking hands part of the banquet and so Charlene asked us to gather for a shot using the professional camera. I think for other weddings I've attended, that's usually the case too ie grabbing the chance to have a group shot using the PG's camera.
It's so sweet that she was able to make it to the wedding. You look beautiful as well.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I never watch horror movies, but if a horror movie plays a song ringtone, I always get scared of that song.
What beautiful pictures ! Love the vintage dress you were wearing :) Thanks to Nelah to leading me to this blog :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous photos!! I <3 weddings. It's a happy time for the loved up couple
ReplyDeleteAlso loving ALL the dresses featured
Would people actually leave nasty comments??!! I am seriously appalled if such things were to happen. How could anyone say anything negative or bad about the whole thing/situation. Sorry Jo (i am having a major rant here because I know such nasty despicable people do exist and often haven't even the guts to leave their names or even a pseudo name when doing so).

Ok, I think i have calmed down.... It is a nice wedding and Charlene looked radiant. Many congratulations to here.
oh ya, I almost forgot, I somewhat by random chance met your pal (Regina), through Nelah. I thought she looked very familiar and I had seen her have before on your blog page. Everything sort of clicked when I found out that she is also an ambassador for ClubCouture.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a beautiful event from the photos, and everyone including little Charmarine looked beautiful. That little girl is full of life and vibrant. I hope all is well with her conditions.
ReplyDeleteI especially adore the bride's gown and your dress Jo. Living here in the US, I don't get to go to events much at all. Kind it sad, no chance to dress up.
Hey I still owe you a list, haven't forgotten. Will try to get it done by Sunday :)
aki,
ReplyDeleteThank you! Ah, that happens to me as well.

katattack2000,
That's a rather unique username there. Thank you for stopping by and leaving me a note. Hope to see you around more often.

Ling,
Thank you!

Peh Sun,
Yup, such people do exist. Thankfully on this blog here, I've only experienced nasty comments from the same person. Used to have loads on ourfeistyprincess but most nasty comments were also from the same few people. I really don't understand some people.
Haha thanx, I'll convey your message to Charlene. Yes, regina is a good gal friend of mine. You would very frequently see her photos here.

Nelah,
Thank you, dear. Charmaine is really very strong. When I saw her just now, she was quite lethargic. She cannot really be as energetic as most of her strength is used for breathing normally.
You can still dress up for some nice dinner when you and your hubby do get some time off or when your schedules meet!
Ooh, ok! Can't wait for the list but remember, please do not specially make one for me when you don't have the time k?
you always look so pretty and elegant! The bride is glowing and Charmaine is looking cute. Looked like you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI love weddings! You and everyone else as well look so sharp and nicely dressed. I know I've said it before, but I love Charlene's dress! The removable train probably makes movement and dancing so much easier. And I'm glad to see that Charmaine was able to make it to the event with all of you. I don't remember seeing her in the solemnization photos, so that's good that she was still able to be a part of Charlene's wedding. And I agree that the world can really be small sometimes. It's good that you had company to talk to at the reception! Wedding receptions can get a bit boring if there's no one to keep you company :)
ReplyDeleteJo, I so enjoyed reading this post and looking at the pics. Thank you for sharing them. Everyone looked amazing and what a beautiful wedding. The bride looked gorgeous! I LOVE your dress girl and Charmaine is a dollbaby. She is so sweet. ((HUGS))
