More write-ups and photos of this affectionate lion here.

I stumbled onto this as one of the related videos --

Spotted… Gluttons at MELT

Buffet is the best kinda dinner for gluttons like us. Hence, we decided to check out MELT for deardear’s belated birthday dinner two Sundays ago.

We stuffed ourselves silly. Even though the variety of food wasn’t that impressive, the food tasted good and that’s a minus 1 point, plus 1 point to break even for Melt.

1st dish

1. seafood salad
2. mango sald
3. papaya salad
4. chicken salad
5. mushroom salad
6. smoked mackerel
7. smoked salmon
8. smoked snow fish
9. Thai beef salad

Appetite-inducing! Love the mushroom salad best even though I’m not exactly a mushroom-person.

A sashimi platter is a good way to begin the meal. For fans of soba, we both didn’t quite like the soba there.

Kh’s drink. It’s some mango drink which tasted great.

Mine. It is a mixed of all kinds of berries. Sure is a great drink if you enjoy Panadol for kids.

Kh opted for the western fare

While I chose the Asian (Thai, Indonesian style) one.

Kh really whacked the cold seafood like xiao.

He had two plates!!! I only helped by eating whatever he peeled for me. Even though I don’t really like cold and sweet seafood, I must say that they’re really succulent.

The oysters were fresh but I could not really stomach them and felt the compelling need for me to swallow them immediately. Two was enough for me. The best oysters are still the ones at The Cliff. Remember the $13.90 price tag per oyster?

I ended the savoury course with more sashimi, sushi and smoked fish.

Looking around one last time to see if we should get anymore before we started savouring the desserts.

We decided to take a coffee break before we proceeded for desserts and chocolate fondue.

Delectable desserts

Review in summary for MELT The World Cafe

Food: * * * 1/2
Food is great. Seafood and sashimi were very fresh. Pity about the limited variety of main courses.

Ambience: * * * *
Comfortable. Classy but not uppity.

Service: * * * *
Service was excellent. Wait staffs held eye contact with me even though kh was the one doing the talking and vice versa. It gave us the impression that they were acknowledging both of us no matter who was the one talking. The manager would randomly stop at tables to make small talk with patrons and enlightening patrons with which buffet dishes were new on the menu etc.

Price:
Value-for-money if you’re gluttons like us
The bill came to a total of $150++ after 15% discount.

Who’s the boss?

After the dinner, we went to Kbox. I haven’t been singing K with him for a looooooooooooooooooong time. My main motive was to shortlist a song for this company KTV singing competition.

Jolene in a singing competition??? Yeah yeah… I boh bian coz my group nobody join la. Too many past year champions liao and they are not eligible to participate so this amateur and another stage-fright-colleague must go save the group. I have the sneaking suspicion that I would be booted out at the very 1st round.

Yeah, so anyway, we had lots of fun singing. I missed singing OUR 恋爱频率 together…

Oh yes, the night before, we went to catch the “The Dark Knight”.

Before the movie started, we had more than an hour to waste so guess what we did? We wasted our money on Sweetland machine!

Just in case some for you dunno what Sweetland machine is… here is a video I found on YouTube

The end result? A huge bag of sweets; a Stitch music player and some unfortunate-looking Disney soft toy as the jackpot price and $70+ poorer.

Actually there were more variety of sweets and snacks but we gobbled them up while scooping the sweets onto the platform.

Fancy spending $70+ just like that.

It was soooooo addictive!

Another machine which I got hooked was the one where you can win Sony PSP, PS3, Asus notebook, Sony Ericsson mobile phones etc. I was really hooked onto that. We reached the 2nd top bar a few times but we just could not get the last bar to coincide. The Wheeeew… Whoopee sound effect from that machine is still ringing clearly in my mind.

The Dark Knight

It was very exciting. I love the charming Christian Bale as Batman and I applaud Heath Ledger for the convincing portrayal of Joker.

I forgot many parts from the first installment but still, the excitement and pace of the movie is worth 4 stars.

Rating: ****

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Red Cliff

One word – AWESOME!

It made me wanna pick up a Romance of the Three Kingdom book. It made me wanna learn more about Chinese History. It made me curse and swear that there is currently no Idiot’s Guide to Chinese History in English on the market.

I love to watch the warring tactics and strategy as well as the battle of the wits. Oh yes, there are many small funny moments in the show which bring comic relief to a warring movie.

Can't wait for the 2nd installment.

Rating: ****1/2

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Get Smart

It's lame but not as lame as I thought it would be. I'm beginning not to dislike Anne Hathaway so much after this show.

Rating: ***

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Hancock

It wasn’t as bad as what the critics reviewed but I do agree that I can’t see a solid plot and direction of this movie. Nevertheless, the movie was quite entertaining and original.

Rating: ***1/2

My main line is spoilt!

Hey peeps, kindly contact me at my sms line. Silly tailtail dropped my hp and it could never be revived.

I've gotten a spare hp from tailtail! You can still contact me, just that I don't have many of your contacts as most of them were saved in the memory of the spoilt hp. Also, I can't sms for nutz on this hp.

In love with the rings at Love & Co.

I must be head over heels in love with the wedding bands at Love & Co. to dream of them during my short evening nap just now.

I was just about to give up and start drawing out my own designs to be customed-made. Fortunately, tif recommended me to take a peek at Love & Co. before doing that.

They have such a huge range of uniquely designed bands.

We have shortlisted 3 pairs and might be making a trip down again. =)

germ: hi, for may which ones do you have lash extensions? for 24may n 25may do you have extension? as i see that they look different from the other photos also in may. i wanna consider doin thanks
24th May was fake eyelashes. My extensions were dropping like crazy during that time. 25th May was extensions but in a mix of medium and dramatic lashes. I “washed” away my dramatic extensions at the same place and decided to try medium. It was horrible on me even though it looked good on my friend. Horrible as in looked too natural and I felt like I’ve wasted my money. Hence I went back to ask her to insert some dramatic lashes inside.

allo Jo,
so those shoppings must have burnt a small hole in your pocket... splurge as much as you want on yourselves now cos when u have kids u guys will surely be spending on them instead...

have u guys decided on the hotel for your wedding banquet??

ivan

NOOOOO!!! Must save must save! Yes, and the thought of the kids expenditure gives me the shudder coz I know I’m definitely one who’ll spend tons on the kids.

Hi there.. FEP is far east plaza rite? Where's the mondo sale? Thanks.

I don’t remember the address. I think it may be on the 3rd floor, nearer to the fountain escalator section. The shop has got no signboard. It looks warehouse-like full of shoes so should be quite easy to spot.

Hi babe!

Shopping is fun!!~ Dont you think so? Heh heh...!! I like your watch, really so similar to ur darling's one. Such a sweet 'couple' watch for a sweet couple!

And!!! great taste on the chomel necklace. I like the design. So sweet & bling!

And and!!! The Fendi shade! It looks simple but nice!! It's so you!! Wear it and take a photo to show us?

And and and!!! The hand-printed shoes. omg, so pretty can!! really nice! Must wear out, its so pretty & a waste to keep at home to admire yourself. Show off to the others!! OT: Must read the weather forecast b4 wearing the shoes out! =p

And x4 (hahah!!) My vote give to Sookee Wedding band!! The design so nice!! Well, a diamond is not a man's best friend. My hubby also prefers a plain and simple ring without any diamond during the time we went ard looking for our wedding bands. He says that he 'saves' the diamond for me. Hahaha..

Actually the design for Goldheart 3rd pair was pretty nice too. You love blings, so it have a row of blings. while kh prefers no diamond. So a plain one for him will do. Heehee..!!! =p

Wooh! Long long comment! Just what I love! Wah… your paragrapgh got pattern one hor? Wahaha…

A lot of people said it’s quite big but that’s exactly what I want! You’re the first girl who love it as much as me. Heh…

And… I think the chomel necklace design is very unique. Flowers in glass! So vintage lor.

And and I will remember to post a photo of the shades if I wear it. It’s quite dark though. If you see the prada or dior one, you would say they’re even more me…. Coz they are!!!!

And and and… Ya lor damn she bu de wear out leh… That’s why must take photo to admire. Oh yes, if you interested, do drop by my friend’s blog. =P

And and and and… I can kiss that Soo Kee ring goodbye. I brought it up again and he really didn’t like it. He thinks it’s too complicated for wedding bands. Sobz… I don’t like the Goldheart 3rd pair as much as the Soo Kee and I’m one who’ll buy things I like at all cost and won’t settle for anything else if I’ve already set my heart on something. We’ll see how to compromise. Marriage is about compromising… Must get something both of us love.

Shopping Loots & Gifts

Belated gifts from my friends…

A knitted bag from dor & mon from KT branch

I like the bag. People agree that it’s so me. Hee…

Met up with xtina, tiff and other primary school mates on 18th June for LONG JOHN’S.

Seems like not many of my friends like Long John. Glad to find LJS kakis.

A super mini denim skirt from xtina

Nice mah? I think it looks nice but it’s way too hipster and it's hanging too low on me. She was so upset that I’m too skinny for the skirt. I’d wanted to let her wear it but she asked me to sell it. Any of you interested? If not, I'll just have to pair it with my super long tops (which I don't have many).

Masks from Taiwan

These look like novels at first glance. I chose the one with black packaging.

Beaded necklace from tiff

Yes tiff, don’t worry, I love big accessories! ;P

Chomel from viv & apr

It's a bling bling vintage-looking necklace!

It was love at first sight.

I LOVE IT! Why? Coz I chose it! Wahahaha....

I can’t believe I forgot to upload photos of shir’s card!!! Guess I had too many backdated post in May.

A mail for me…

Hand-made card by shir

She got the people and the ex people from the room upstairs to pen some words in.

That’s really sweet.

She got me kino vouchers too! Book vouchers can never go wrong for me.

Another photo which I fogot to upload in my May’s entry…

Crabtree lavender hand therapy from my colleague-superior

It’s so nice of her to give me a pre-birthday gift before she went on leave and I’d the cheek to forget her birthday and to share a belated gift for her. My bad, my bad!

Shopping loots thus far

Clothes trying frenzy at bysi

Only bought 3 of them.

Angels say "halo" to everyone

Angels come in all shapes and colours…

pink

For a pink-lover like me, this pink angel surprisingly didn’t catch my eye as much.

purple

I requested for a purple one for myself but somehow the blue ones seemed to catch my attention more.

sky blue

I don’t really like such light shade of blue but I do love the shape of this angel. Looks like those short short, cute cute type.

a mix of sapphire with prussian blue.

This shade of blue really grabbed my attention. The original colour is different from what is captured here. The blue is really unique and the angel looks very elegant.

I really don’t know which one to choose for myself.

A flutter of fairy dust came by…

A glittering surprise awaits when I opened the box…

Hand-painted shoes by gera

Aren’t they a beauty? It’s so “airy fairy” with enchanting butterflies, roses and dazzling fairy dust.

I merely told gera a rough idea of what I wanted:
Black and purple themed shoes… a fairy and a butterfly on the top of each shoe is a must… Anna Sui pattern…

The rest were churned out by herself. The result? Shoes so pretty I could not bear to wear them out!

What I like is that I got it at such a steal. That’s what besties are for!

Those interested in hand-painted shoes, do drop by gera’s shoe blog.

24K gold essence

What? You think you Egyptian queen ah?
Nope, queen don't buy things at more than 50% discount lor.
I'm more of a cheapo queen.

Retractable eyeliner from koji

This photo is especially posted for friends who asked me about the brand of eyeliner I use. Available at bigger Watson’s stores at $9.90, it’s really cheap and good!

It was supposed to a Wednesday of “hotel shopping” for our banquet but we ended up shopping instead.

At FEP, I was drawn to a sign which practically screamed:

“SHOES… $9.90”

“2 PAIRS FOR $15”

It was a mondo clearance sale. Hence, like a true blue cheapo, I scanned through the sea of discounted shoes to pick a few pairs to try.

I ended up buying 4 pairs.

4 pairs of shoes at $30 makes Jolene a happy little birdie that goes "cheap cheap cheap".

Next, we started our splurging spree.

It was all kh’s fault!

Ok it was his “company’s” fault. He’s entitled to complimentary aviators from his “co” but it’s been outta stock for YEARS!!!!!!

From FEP, we proceeded to DFS as he saw a pair of Ray Ban aviator shades which he liked a lot. He’s not one who splurges on fashion and he doesn’t believe in spending so much for brands. However, if he could go back twice to look at the same item, he really means to buy it.

While he was trying on his aviators and getting the nods and shakes from me intermittently, I sneaked a few steps away to look for a pair of shades for myself.

I hate my hands! Whatever shades I picked to try had hefty price tags of above $500. I especially loved (and still love) an oversized grey Prada one (so that I could go “the devil wears prada” with) and a cream and gold Dior one (that is a combination of absolute chic-ness and total taitai-ness). However, those two cost $500+ as well.

We ended up buying these:

His “be-earlied” birthday present from me

My belated birthday present from him

I don’t have a great penchant for Fendi shades but I do love the unique sides of this design. No blaring huge golden FF logos!

Dang… We’re supposed to save up for our wedding!

Don’t ask me how much we spent ok?

Every GSS, I would pop by any CityChain outlet to take a peek at their metallic watches.

Tip: Only buy watches from CityChain during GSS cos the discount may go as much as 70%.

A huge guyish metallic one was on my watch list this year.

Incidentally, I chose a watch that is so similar to what kh bought from CityChain a few weeks ago. Kh kept on insisiting that I copied him and that I wanna be the same as him even though it was accidental that I happened pick a similar design.

So now we have accidental couple watches!

I love my new watch so much!

Can you guess which is mine?

This is mine.

The red face was what caught my eye. The metal part surrounding the face is plated rosey brownish gold and I thought that it complements its distinctive look.

Shopping for wedding bands

This list is not complete yet.

Just some of those that he likes, I like and we like…

Goldheart has such a wide range of wedding bands!

Simple classic white gold.
Verdict: We are both fine with it.

A combination of rose gold and white gold in wave design.
Verdict: We are both fine with it.

Somehow wave designs look better on my finger. I quite like this bling bling one. He’s fine with it as long as the men’s one doesn’t come with diamonds.
Verdict: I like it better.

From D'Meyson's

A rose gold pair that complements our skin tone. He likes it even though there is a single diamond.
Verdict: He likes it better

From Soo Kee

This is my favourite of all! I really LURVE the design—hearts encasing the single diamond. The men’s one is exactly the same. Kh didn’t like the single diamond as it was really very bling. It sparkled a lot more than the D’Meyson’s and this did look quite beng on him.
Verdict: I lurve it so much but it’s totally not on his list. =(
I shall console myself by saying that this design is not suitable as wedding bands.

Remember my dream wedding band?

Well, after trying it, I realised that it’s a little too angular on me. It looks a lot better in the picture than on my ugly finger.

It was quite difficult finding a pair that both of us like. There would be some which he was fine with but I don’t quite like it. There would be some which I like very much but the men’s one would have a diamond on and he wouldn’t like it. Kh likes the really plain classic kind, whereas my affinity sways from simple classic to diamonds to signatures to two colour to patterned ones.

The pair that we both really really like is from Van Cleef.

I can’t find the design on their website. It’s a very simple classic platinum band with their “Van Cleef” signature across. The price tag happens to be almost on par with the Cartier pair. Once again, it's like paying for simplicity.

I like the Van Cleef one a lot more than the Cartier one as it is not very angular and fitted my ugly finger well.

Well, it's really quite ex and I think we should not spend so much on wedding bands.

Why is it that the things we like are always so expensive???
