February was a short and no doubt busy month and here's February Instasummary. As usual, Instagram videos on blog run in fast forwards, skips and jumps. They are better viewed on iamjolene Instagram page itself for sound and image quality, as well as full streaming and on smartphone Instagram app for emoji to display.

For one of the Division team building activity today, our department did this. Cute max!
We had such fun working as a team to draw, colour, cut, decorate and put everything together. On why the soccer theme and why no breakdown into branches like the other departments... we explained how the 3 branches in our department do not work in silos, but together in tandem to pass the ball to our boss to achieve our goal. Although we didn't win this challenge, we are the champions in our hearts.

Melancholic Danbo looks on forlornly at... peanuts. ~
I got to handle a toy Danbo (Japanese: ダンボー) for the very first time thanx to my colleague and I think I'm so gonna bug him to help me buy one too. I don't care the exorbitant price now. I just want a Danbo. Oops... Do I need a DSLR to take Danbo pictures that are Flickr worthy?

Saw 3 friends on Instagram balancing eggs today and wondered what it was all about till I googled about it. Egg balancing has been connected with Lichun (立春), the solar term beginning Chinese spring (春) on February 4 or 5 when the sun is at the celestial longitude of 315°. I took only a few seconds to balance this super outta shape egg 😃 and then I decided to put my 2 Chi cats as props, knocking the egg down in the process 😣. Hubz could turn, snigger at me and call me "stupid" even when gaming. 😅 After that, I took about 5 minutes, snapped a photo and decided the egg wasn't photogenic enough with visible condensation forming on the surface. I wiped the egg and then took more than 5 minutes to get it to balance. Why does it get increasingly difficult?
Have you tried balancing an egg today?

I said, "Sounds really yummy. But the cooking process SUX." 😅

In another 3 days, it would be our 14th anniversary together on the 14th of February. A few years ago, I've stopped counting the number of years we were together and the number of wedding anniversaries since all these numbers do not matter as time passes. What matters is that we continue to walk this journey of love together hand in hand through ups and downs and dance if we can. #sugarmeupclass95 #valentinesday #anniversary #blackandwhite #letsdance

Today is a very different Valentine's Day for me. My sweet eldest sister, @kappo77 is currently in ICU. This is my most recent wefie with her during her wedding last November. She is most beautiful that day and she would always be beautiful inside and out. Please help my family and all who care for her to pray for a smooth surgery on Monday. Thank you. Random "meh" thoughts in the year of the goat/sheep/ram:
#1 Random strangers who pass by to comment couldn't tell who the owner of this account is.
Not enough selfies meh? 😳 @_@
#2 Disliking the new MeituPic (美图秀秀) update coz the editing looks fake. I love to use mtxx filters rather than Instagram ones but the updated filters come with auto editing to slim the face, enlarge the eyes and blur out the skin tone all in one.
Not fake meh?
#3 I think I'm gonna cut my fringe soon. Current fringe is too untidy for daily look with many strands of antenna-like hair growing upwards. Always gotta crop the top of head in photos.
Not weird meh?

ReplyDeleteHi Tasha, welcome to my blog and thank you for your lovely compliment on my self-drawn tattoo. I love seeing new faces here and I would be checking out your blog soon! =)
DeleteBeautiful post, really interesting...thx for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you. =)
DeleteI managed to eat an entire chocolate while eating this post...and now I wonder how that happened! maybe because you always have such delicious food pics...No, I won't blame you...for a little while I lost taste for sweets and I baked salty cakes and then suddenly my desire for sweets returned. Go figure:)
ReplyDeleteI do hope everything goes well for your sister. She will be in my prays! ...and you try to get some rest yourself...nothing more stressful than worrying about love ones.
Congrats to you and the hubby for your anniversary...you two are a cute couple.
That team building activity looks fun...it's great when one agrees well with co-workers.
Hi Ivana, I sure hope you didn't "eat" my post. These electronic pixels of food must have tasted awful. =D I'm glad you got your sweetness back and I wonder how salty cakes taste like! Thank you for your well wishes for my sister. *virtual hugz*
Deletesalty cakes taste salty:) I usually just use corn powder and make them with cheese...and salt instead of sugar. I mostly improvise but I think there are a lot of recipes out there so I might look into that...and speaking of cakes my sister in law made an amazing cake yesterday. It's made only with eggs whites and whole oranges that have been boiled previously (and turned into mash oranges with a multipractic)...the icing is made with chocolade and egg yolds. I totally have to try to make that cake, it tastes heavenly and I can't believe how simple it is!
DeleteLove that dress cartoon - the blue/black vs. white/gold debate has really gotten out of control! Luckily the dress debate is finally dying down.
ReplyDeletePrayers and thoughts to your sister! Seems like she is doing much better.

Hi Emily, The dress debate was fun while it lasted and then after that it was passé. I'm glad I saw blue and black while the hubz can't seem to see it even as we were looking from the same phone. Thank you for keeping my sis in your thoughts. =)
DeleteFirst of all I've got to say thank you, for all those comments you left for me! I'm touched a lot, I do appreciate it a lot:)
ReplyDeleteYou've shared some dishes of your traditional cuisine again, everything look so delicious! My mouth waters:D:D:D Hopefully, I would have a chance to taste some of those someday;)
As for me I still can't believe in fact that it's already 2015! Time is running like an express train! oh, and I have never heard about tried balancing an egg, is it a new main stream? Looks like fun:D
Thanks for sharing such a substantial review of your month, I enjoyed reading and scrolling down your pictures a lot:)
P.S.
I also wish your sister will get well as soon as possible, hope she will have a smooth surgery and quick recovery. I have my fingers crossed for her!
Hi Alexandra,
DeleteI'm always very thrilled to read your posts and comments as I love the way you write in English so beautifully even if it isn't your first language. The feelings and appreciation is definitely mutual!
Balancing an egg in during the equinox seems to be Asian thing but it is surprising that I only got to know of this practice on that day I did it. I saw a few fellow Singaporeans doing it and posting on Instagram and so I read up about this myth. Apparently, you could balance eggs perfectly on any other days too. Try it if you are curious and patient.
Thank you for your well wishes for my sister. As my Instagram summary here is outdated by a month, she has already undergone the surgery and is recovering. She has a 6-month window of observation and we pray that everything goes well.
Jo, I love your Instagram pictures... especially the moving ones you have... you always have such interesting ones... they make me smile... I have to say congratulations again on 14 years, that is amazing, especially since you only look like you might be 25... :) In answer to your seafood question, it is by choice ... I just don't like it My ex step mother forced me to eat a lot of it, most of it was rubbery and tasteless or so fishy tasting... I get ill thinking about it... when I grew up I just kept cutting things out, now I don't eat any. Both my children like seafood and fish though... that was until Valentina decided to be a vegetarian... so now we don't eat any fish or seafood anymore xox
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great March... I just want the weather to get better very soon, I am SO tired of all the ice... it is really beginning to weigh on all of us... it is exhausting to keep my balance and slowly walk or slide somewhere... Have a great week xox
Hi Launna,
DeleteHehehe... We are on it again. The how I look like 25. Our 14-year anniversary is the years of togetherness and not marriage. We knew each other when we were teens. But yeah, I'm still a lot older than 25 even after discounting these facts.
Thanx for sharing your story with me. Rubbery and tasteless seafood are horrid. I hate those too. They are not flavoured and cooked properly. Totally reminded me of the cheese baked scallops in this post whereby the scallops totally had no flavour of its cheese and marinade and tasted a little fishy. Fresh scallops should be sweet and succulent.
The great thing is that March would be warmer for you folks up north. I hope the warmth would help to warm the heart and mind too. xoxo
I love looking at delicious food and your blog is definitely one of the best places to do so :)

DeleteI never new about the 'balancing egg' tradition!
ReplyDeleteI never knew till that night too! =D
DeleteResist the Danbo!!! The want will pass. The Chi cats agree. :) I've never tried egg yolk fries.
ReplyDeleteYour sister is the story of the month. I was so relieved that everything went well for her. My parents both died from subarachnoid hemorrhages, so I was very worried for her and your family. They were both used to having bad headaches (especially my dad), so they didn't think it was serious until it was too late.
Hey Rick, Did you realize that TWD's main character is Rick too? Resist the Danbo I try... The want has been around for years. And after handling an authentic Dando, I don't mind paying the hefty price tag. Hehehe... Chi Cats would be sad that Danbo would be my next travel buddy if I should get one. Talking about subarachnoid hemorrhages and headaches, my mum and I often get bad headaches and we were advised to go for scans. Thank you for keeping my sis and family in your thought.
DeleteYour post was so interesting to read, I saw pretty pics and also learned new thing, like the balancing egg !

Thank you for your well wishes for my sis, Kim. Our 14-year anniversary is the years of togetherness and not wedding. We knew each other when we were teens. Hehehe...
DeleteSuch marvellous pictures my dear, always enjoy them. The balancing egg tradition was quite interesting :))) Happy weekend doll xx
ReplyDeleteHi Kizzy, I was surprised to know of the balancing egg tradition and even more surprised I could do it. Happy Sunday to you!
DeleteHello Jo :)) I am so happy to hear from you ♥ And omg thanks for saying the photos resemble an autumn editorial or something ahh >//< My boyfriend too is flattered :) Your post that I just read came in sooo 'handy' as I have missed out on so much on your blog. I love what you say about your wedding anniversary: You are absolutely right, numbers do not matter but I think it's always a nice gesture to 'celebrate' those days. ♥ I wish you all the best for the next years! :))
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see you around more frequently, Keki. I always speak what I truly think and yes, you and your boy deserve the compliment. Hope to see more of such photos for your future pre-wedding shoots. Hehehe... I wish the both of you all the best too and may your love for each other continues to sparkle.
DeleteI'm glad we can catch up with each other on Instagram now though I do have to warn you that I'm still learning my way around there so I may be a little slow to respond. I think it's wonderful how long you and your husband have been together and that you've stopped counting the years and are just focusing on working to continue your journey. My husband and I have been together for 20 years now and people are always amazed by the time but what they don't realize that it takes work, love and respect for that to happen.
ReplyDeleteRowena @ rolala loves
No worries on the response, Rowena. Just really happy that you're on IG! Wow, you 2 have been together for 20 years? It is either you two are much older than us (which certainly, you look young in the little glimpse you revealed on your blog) or else then you two have been together since you were teens or very young. Totally agree on taking lots of effort, love and respect. I wish the both of you all the best too and may your love for each other continues to shine.
DeleteDear Jo, sounds and looks like you had a February full of life, fun and extremely yummy food! For me it feels also as we are still at the start of 2015 - and I can't believe we have already March. I think your fringe look good in the way it is at the moment but I know what you mean, there are always lenghts in the own hair which makes oneself feel not happy - or even untidy like you. And the tattoo story you share here is too cool: obviously you are really skilled in painting as your mother even believed the tatto was real :) Thank you for sharing so many lovely moment. Hope the weather in Singapore will be bearable ... All the best to you!

Thank you for your sweet comment and for sharing your thoughts, Rena. I do feel like we are running on a bullet train with time flashing like this. In the end, I kept my fringe and am trying to grow them out. Hope you would welcome spring with great warmth and joy. Time to get those spring-summer clothes out!
DeleteYou both look great with your new hair! Your old hair looked great too - I'm so envious that you can grow it so long. Don't let rude comments get to you!
ReplyDeleteLOL I wish I were 22 years old - that was my age when I got my bachelor's degree. It's been 10 years since, so you can do the math and figure out how old I really am. :) It is confusing, since we refer to university as "college" in the US. Don't be down on yourself for having had a negative experience! I had a terrible high school experience (9th - 12th grade) and refuse to contribute a single penny to that horrid school. Like all things in life, nothing is all good or all bad. It's the mix of experiences that keep it interesting and keep us grateful for the good things that do come our way. :)
