The degree of BACHELOR OF ARTS has been conferred upon me in writing on 30 June 2004. Accordingly, I am entitled immediately to all the privileges attached to the degree. And I’ve only received this honourable letter yesterday. I had all along thought I cannot be considered as an Arts graduate as I have not attended the ceremony, which is tomorrow.
I read the letter with much amusement with their choice of words. “[I]t gives me great pleasure to inform you”, “entitled immediately to all the privileges attached to the degree”, “Please accept our congratulations on your success in your candidature for the degree”. [PS: You got to read it in your most hypocritical voice to attain the desired effect.] I wonder if NUS employs anyone to write such shit. If they do, I’ll gladly take up this job and do a Gulliver or a William Collins with my highly elaborate verbal language and excessive pomposity. There! I am a lady of excess.
I was peeved a month ago when NUS classified me as English 1st major instead of Geography because this separates me from my Geography friends by putting me in the morning session ceremony. I am a double major but I’ve taken more Geography modules and have always regarded it as my 1st major. However when filling up forms, I always write in alphabetical order with English before Geography. Big mistake! I even emailed the in charge about this “mistake” and she said to see the dean but I was not willing to go through the trouble. Now I’m not only torn away from my kakis but also associated with the likes of freakish EL majors. Fortunately, I have my dear Evan beside me in the morning session. She too, considered Geography her 1st major but had the same thinking as me when filling up forms and so our mistakes put us together. In case, you all are wondering why I made such a big fuss about the classification, it is because at that time, my main concern was that my deardear might not be able to make it in the morning.
While lamenting to my friends about this, all of them said that EL major sounds a lot more avant-garde than Geog major. That is kind of true too.
All my friends are really excited about tomorrow’s commencement ceremony that I wonder if I’m abnormal. These few days feel like ordinary days. I’ve not even gotten my buttoned white blouse and black court shoes. I do have an off-white buttoned blouse at home so maybe I needn’t shop for that but I cant find all 3 pairs of blisters-producing court shoes I bought few years back each time I’ve got a band performance. I’m gonna fork out more cash and invest in one good pair like Hush Puppies or Scholl so I can wear them for work too. That is, if I have a job.
I did not invite many friends for photo-taking session tomorrow. Although I have many different groups of friends, most of them would be too busy to go anyway. Besides 80% of my friends are those you can go crazy with during impromptu get togethers but whom I will not intentionally seek to invite them for the photo-taking or else then belong to the league of Hi-Bye friends.
Tingfang said in her blog that her head is an ‘L’ size and her body ‘S’ and that she must have been harbouring mega brains all along. Continue deceiving yourself and yes… I cordially welcome you to the Tweety Head club. I remembered you were one of those who conferred that title to me. Oh I haven’t told u I’m an “M” head, have I? *smirks*
Let's all joyously throw our tassel hats (I thought it’s called a mortar board?) in the air tomorrow.

Rankle & Rant
I’m in an irritated mood now. I’m jobless yet I have no time for myself. I’m not spending enough time with my boyfriend. I do not have time to read my library books together with those few books I borrowed from people. I do not have time to read the papers. I feel like a frog in the well. Whenever I’m not giving tuition, I’ll be at home doing the laundry (that includes washing, hanging and folding.) My house is still in a mess. My hotmail is exploding, my yahoomail is spamming and I’m getting sick of listening to everybody’s ranting and nagging. I’m sick of being the middle person, the peacemaker, the one who listens to poor souls who have no one else to pour their problems to. These poor souls are people I love and care for but when they start all their ranting and nagging, they metamorphose into people I dread and do not give a shit for. I’m highly charged with stress over the days… other people’s stress. I can’t ask them to shut up and give me a break coz if I do not listen to them, they would keep all the pent-up emotions in them and that’s very unhealthy. I’m only glad that my deardear is back in Singapore to mollify and calm me down.
Many things happened the past few days which I thought might be worth blogging. But I hate writing backdated stuff and with my current mood, I guess I’ll leave it for another day or skip it in all. OH! I just noticed that my ad on top of this page is on Tweety merchandise!

A Tribute to Tweety
From my last entry, my friends commented that I’ve never sounded so serious in my blog. After crying the past few days at the wake, my cheerful disposition is back again. Having not blogged for 3 days, I’m suffering from a mind block now and I simply do not know what to write about.
Let’s start off with my Deardear. (Ok ok… stop sniggering or being all so overwhelmed with disgust coz besides “EH!”, that’s how we address each other.) He’s finally back from Aussieland for an 18-day stint here. Ooh and he bought me something, something which I had a love-hate relationship with over the years.
I liked it when I was a young and impressionable pre-schooler and used to think it was cute. I remembered marveling at its capability of avoiding being eaten by the black and white cat. “I taut I taw a putty tat!” I often muttered to elicit responses from gushing adults such as “Oh! She’s so cute!”, “Oh! Hear her imitate!”, “Oh! She looks like Tweety!”
And then as I got older, I disliked it. It has been too well liked by all that I started loathing it. I often wondered how it could fly with wings as small as yellow chrysanthemum petals and feet as big as boxing gloves. Not to mention its big head. No such bird would survive in the real world with bodily characteristics like these. It defies the nature of evolution. It is a mutant!
After some time, that little big-head-bird did not irk me like before. I even thought that it’s big head and equally big feet were cute. Since then, I did not feel any aversion towards that bird-brain.
Until recently, I started being turned off by that yellow bird yet again when a few people commented that my head looked like a “Tweety-head”. What exactly does a “Tweety-head” looks like? Big? Rounded? Yellow? Fat cheeks? Swollen mouth? Please bear in mind that people exclaiming you look like Tweety when you were a lousy baby and when you are a beautiful adult are two very different issues which bring about two very dissimilar reactions.
“You like Tweety?”, “You look like Tweety!”, “Come to think of it, I didn’t realize your head is so big” were responses I got when I decided to put this photo which I took with countless Tweeties at Movie World as my MSN display picture. Needless to say, I’ve since changed the picture.
After divagating and rambling for five paragrapghs, can you see where all these are heading? Yup, my Deardear bought me a HUGE Tweety soft toy from the same store I hugged those countless Tweeties and posed with them. It’s so huge, it takes up half my bed. It’s so huge, it’s amazing I did not kick it off my bed the night before.
Huge Tweety with huge head. See! My head isn't big.
Surprisingly, when he presented me with that toy, I did not feel any disgust for Tweety anymore. Moreover, when my mum saw the toy, she reminded me that the uncle who just passed away used to call me “Tweety Bird”. All the memories came back to me. He used to pinch my cheeks with his thumb and fingers on each side of my face such that my mouth will resemble Tweety. Then, he’ll laugh non-stop and repeat the same act. I enjoyed it! He used to carry me a lot when I was a toddler too. Each time he came my house, he would greet me with “Hello, Tweety Bird” and I would beam.
I ought thank my Deardear for buying me that present. At the beginning I was still protesting and he threatened to give it to some Mary or Sharon instead. I seem to lose all animosity towards Tweety now. In fact, I must say that I’m beginning to re-like Tweety and I do not think that I would grow to dislike it in the future.

Melancholy... ...
My uncle passed away in a car accident. I’m not very close to him but I do feel a sense of loss. He did not look like himself at the wake. I heard from my cousins (his children) that the impact was so great, his face and chest area were “fractured”. “Fractured” was the term the police used and none of us wanted to know more.
I don’t really know what to write about this. I don’t know if I would be revealing too much unwittingly. I don’t know if I’ll get too emotional and soppy. I could not help feeling the tears well up in my eyes when I saw his face, yet I could not cry out. I bursted only when I saw my mum broke down. She shares the same birth date with that uncle.
I feel sorry for him and his family, as they did not get to see him alive for the last time. The police tried calling his home through his handphone but nobody was at home as they had all gone to my cousin’s house two blocks away. Nobody answered the door when the police came knocking. They only managed to get the oldest cousin at daybreak. By then, my uncle has already passed away.
I thought it was all right if the police had difficulty finding out whom his family members are, from the names in his address book when they only managed to call my cousin a few hours later. But there were only these entries in his contacts: Home, my aunt’s name, and his 3 children’s names. The police claimed they called all the numbers but none of their handphones showed any missed calls. This added to their anguish.
On my part, I feel a sense of loss as I just saw that uncle last Tuesday when he came over to hand my dad some forms. He is one uncle who would occasionally drop by to hand some forms to my dad or to give us some fish which he caught. That day, I did not pay much attention to him as I thought it was just another day. With my Simba trying to run out of the house, I just hurriedly took the form and asked if he would like to pass any message to my dad. He handed some notes saying this was what he owed my dad and he would slowly pay the rest when he had the cash.
Apparently, he owed my dad some money throughout the years but my parents being not very well to do themselves could understand his plight and did not press him. It was just bad timing when my family was in dire need of money that my mum finally decided to ask him to try to return some. He said with much pride that he has been working as a taxi driver at night to supplement his low income and would return some soon. Two days ago, his taxi crashed into a tree.
To all my friends who drive, please drive carefully. To all those who jay-walk, please look out for traffic. Please be careful in whatever you do. Please be nice to whoever you know as you will never know, that might just be the last time you see them.

Of Being Struck by God and Being Peeved
I finally summoned enough courage to drag myself to my family doctor. Why do I need courage to see a doctor?
If you haven’t been reading my entries, let me remind you again that on Sunday, I suspected that I might have contracted some cirrhosis of the liver or some stomach disease. The pain was much better yesterday so I ignored everybody’s advice to see a doc. And then it came back again today.
My aunt, whose son I’m tuitioning, claimed that God has touched me for she has prayed for me the day before and reminded me to give thanks for God has healed me. She broached on the topic of attending church every Sunday yet again and joining her family at their church because simply believing in God is not enough and I have to give thanks by attending church. I guess I left my manners at home and forgot to express my gratitude to God. Thereupon, He struck me for my insolence early this morning, waking me up from my slumber just to do the loorathon. I’ve just taken part in 3 more races after the visit to my doctor.
Ah, I digress. I was on the topic of mustering courage to see a doctor. In reality, I was not afraid to be diagnosed with anything, I was simply trying to save up on medical expenses and being “cool” about it. The seriousness in my tone shocked some. But alas, I was merely mimicking Gulliver-speak in Gulliver’s Travels where he made many mountains out of many molehills. I guessed I’ve failed.
My doctor misses me. She assumed I have been very healthy for I’ve not seen her for a year. I did not reveal that I’ve been seeing the highly subsidized and sometimes free-of-charge NUS doctors at YIH. Anyway she concluded that I have germs in my guts upsetting almost every organ, even causing me to “spot” (ladies will know what that term means) and lose my sex drive. Ok, I made the last one up.
WooHoo! So now I know there’s nothing wrong with my liver, I’m gonna drink myself silly again.
Now, you people know I own a neopet right? She’s called ke3ke3 and she’s cute and she belong to the “Kacheek” species. Well, I’ve been neglecting ke3ke3 for like a year and so it’s mood has been utterly miserable. (I was surprised it could live without food for 1 year!)
This is a photo of her:
My Cute Little Ke3Ke3
After my exams, I try to log in at least every 2 days to do all the daily neopetsy stuff. I fed it the best food and gave it the best books and even played silly games like “Kacheek Seek” just to get her involved in the action so I could see her mood improve. Did all those for weeks but her mood remains “miserable”.
So with my big fat money bag jingling with neopoints, I sauntered into Neolodge, poured all my filthy neopoints out and checked ke3ke3 into the most expensive five star deluxe hotel suite at The Presidential Palace. Ok, that isn’t the most expensive hotel, it was the second but don’t you think The Presidential Palace sounds a lot more exquisite than Astro Villa? Hello, I’m like a millionaire in Neopia, I don’t need the most expensive suite, just the most expensive sounding suite to brandish my wealth. Sometimes I feel so rich in Neopia, I feel like a pauper on earth. The virtual world is a vicious and deceiving zone, sometimes you experience eternal bliss there only to be torn back into the real world and its cruelty.
Anyway, back to my story, I ticked all 12 extra services like jacuzzi and spa and grooming and maid service etc so that she would enjoy her stay like a queen. She checked out a moment ago and sent me an email:
Hi there Jolene
Im just emailing to say that I had a great time in the NeoLodge, and now its
time for me to check out and go back to Neopia!. Thanks for being the best
owner ever, and I hope all the other Neopets are jealous :)
Speak to you soon,
ke3ke3
PS. I would like some more food!
Now I thought that was very cute for no. 1, she sounded really cute indeed and no. 2 I didn’t know she could send an email. I was touched by her sincerity and logged into www.neopets.com, expecting to witness a change in her mood from “miserable” to “euphoric”. I was peeved when her mood was “depressed”. What the f*** is she depressed about? To send that heart-warming email and feel depressed at the same time! Such a two-faced little creature! Not forgetting to mention that her hunger level was “bloated”. Fat two-faced little creature! Oh and how rude of her to address me by my name!
