Double S for Simba and Shirasu

Today. 15 October 2013, is Simba's 6th year death anniversary. That's the little urn with her ashes in it. It is palm-sized and really cute. But what was cuter was that the vet had connections with the pet cremation service and thanks to that, we had our Simba still at home in my 2nd sis's room. (My 2nd sis was the one who picked Simba up when she was a stray kitten.)

6 years and I've still not kept a pet cat since. I don't want the heartbreak of losing a pet, especially a really intelligent and loving one like Simba. Simba was cute if you saw her in real life and if you witnessed her many actions. She simply melted the hearts of many. My friends who were afraid of cats would all take a liking to her when they went over my place. And could you believe it? She even turned my mum from a cat-hater to a cat-lover... hmm... probably just a Simba-lover. My mum do not particularly love all cats unless they reminded her of Simba.

Simba would often walked to the door to greet anyone who came home with a soft "meow". Hence, there was once my mum lamented, "I have 3 daughters but none of them would come to the door to greet me. Only Simba is good. She would come to the door to greet me." We took in my mum's words while continuing to munch on snacks and watch TV. My mum raised her hands in exasperation as she carried on heaping praises on Simba and blasting her daughters.

Cute as Simba was. Unfortunately, she wasn't too photogenic so I tend to always feature the same few photos of her. You know how some cats are cute but their eyes just look weird in photos and how 1st generation handphone cameras are so lousy? That's what I mean. This is one of my favourite pictures of her as it showcased her big eyes as well as her black and white paws.

The paw pads for her left black paws on both the front and hind legs were black while the paw pads for her right paws were pink.

This was Simba at the vet on a drip. She died a few days later. She was very strong throughout the stay and she was brought home to recuperate though we were told that she did not have long to live. Up till her last moments, she was still so loving. She waited till she saw all of us in the family before she slowly closed her eyes, never to open them again.

I've got no intention to keep a cat since I'm living with my in-laws. Maybe I would consider keeping one when we have our own home.

My mum-in-law doesn't like cats and I'm hoping that she could become like my mum and slowly begin to like cats. This is highly impossible with my bro-in-law's stupid cat. Yeah, my hubby and I call her "meow meow" or "stupid cat". My mil calls her "mao mi", my fil calls her "meow" but both my bil call her by her name "Gabby". I think "meow meow" or "stupid cat" suit her better though. She is just not as loving and intelligent as Simba and most stray cats. There are stray cats in my parents' neighbourhood which are more loving towards me than this stupid cat so I doubt she would be able to paw her way into my mil's heart. Despite calling her a stupid cat and all, the hubz and I would have a soft spot for her still as after all, she is a pet and a cat to boot.

~

My urge to keep a cat really came a knocking when I chanced upon a cat named Shirasu on Instagram. Shirasu is a Scottish Fold and she made me start to cultivate a liking for "cats with breed". I know that term doesn't make sense for those who know lots about cats. I used to only like the breed of stray cats found in my country-- mainly American Shorthair. I do not like other exotic breeds. I just keep looking at pictures of Shirasu and wonder how on earth could a cat be so cute?

Shirasu looks so cute with her big eyes prowling and hiding.

She looks adorably notti sniffing and biting stuff.

She looks so cute being curious.

She looks so cute doing notti things. I mean if I have a cat that looks so cute, I would beat her after catching her do notti things and just feel bad the whole day for beating her. Yes, I beat Simba when she was notti and I would feel bad too.

Awww... don't you like it when kitty cats expose their tummies? It shows trust.

She looks so cute sleeping too.

My 2 favourite pictures of Shirasu was when she was a kitten.

Awwwwww... Can I just carry you home?

DISCLAIMER:
Simba is my cat. Shirasu isn't.
I initially had a line saying  I do hope people would read carefully before commenting with the misconception that both are mine. However, I thought I might sound a bit rude and hence removed it.
I'm gonna insert this disclaimer again. No offence. =)

    1. Thanx for dropping by. I like it when people adopt their pets instead of buying them from the pet shop. Most of my pets are adopted too but I may change my mind about buying pets.

  4. hey jo! this post made me cry. i understand how you feel. i had two dogs at the same time and they died with 3 mos of one another. i think the second died of heartbreak. i was so sad, and I haven't had a pet since. i don't want another right now, because my schedule doesn't allow it. i just don't have the time. we become so attached to animals. I know you miss Simba. Shirasu is a cutie!!! I love that last pic.

    1. Yup, we pet lovers and owners would definitely empathise with each other. Animals require a lot of commitment. Fortunately, I find cats pretty independent. It's been quite a few years and I think I'm ready to have another pet. I asked the hubz if we could keep a cat in our future home and he said if I could take care of it, he is fine with it. I'm surprised that he wasn't averse to their shedding of fur and the need to scratch stuff at home yet ecstatic too, but I still gotta wait for 2 years. I hope you have since gotten over your 2 beloved doggies. It is so heartbreaking that the 2nd one died of heartbreak. That could happen to animals if they have been really close to each other. Hugz to you!

  7. They're both cute, but Simba was cuter! I can't have cats inside since I'm allergic. We had a cat (Fluffy) for several years and I got bronchitis a lot during that time--I found out later I was allergic. My parents had cats, but kept them outside, so I didn't know about the allergies.

I have a cat story that would make you cry...it should make anyone cry. I can't decide if I should post it or not.

    1. Did you manage your allergy in the end coz you have your doggie. I always wonder if dog fur very different from cat fur or is it that dogs don't shed as much fur as cats do.

I will cry at animal stories. Before you share your sob cat story, I would love to read all your other ghostly encounters. Will be back for more of the haunting in that pink bedroom.

  8. I'm really sorry for your loss. I know the heartbreak that comes with having pets, but I can never imagine my life without dogs. I feel the joy and happiness of having a pet surpasses the pain and sadness that comes with losing a beloved family pet. Of course, my "new" dogs will never replace my "old" dogs.

Simba is super cute and I love her paws! Animals are so amazing, it's crazy how much life they bring into ours.

Shirasu is adorable, I can see why she's popular XD

    1. Thanx for sharing. Yes, I'm on the same plane as you that the happiness these pets bring would surpass the pain and sadness. All animals are different and unique in their own ways and for quite a while after Simba's death, I simply felt that no cat could replace her. My sisters wanted to adopt a cat on a few occasions but I didn't want to. Thank you for the kind words. =)

  9. Oh how sad, so sorry for Simba! When a puppy dies is always so sad! I never own a cat (or a dog) but always wanted, I can imagine your feelings even now that 6 years are passed from her death. The cat you chance upon on Instagram is so sweet! Love the last pic!:) Kisses! xo

  11. Simba looks like she was such a sweet kitty. And Shirasu looks very cute and quite a handful. I so enjoy the Scottish Fold breed. Hope to have one someday. I have had 5 cats pass on me through the years and it is always such a difficult decision to re-attach your heart to someone who will likely not be with you for overly long. The endings are just too much. But I just love cats too much to be without one. P.S. I won't tell Buddy you featured another IG kitty instead of him as his ego is very fragile, even with his fake product endorsements and all :)

    1. You had 5 cats pass on you? Were they reared at the same time or one by one? I'm sure you would miss one cat more than the other in terms of different actions and personality and the re-attachment would be a process. How old is buddy? Haha.. Buddy the Peanut Butter cat.

    2. Buddy is nutty for sure :) He is about 2 and has his terrible 2 moments at times, but totally worth it. The 5 cats came mostly from different places, most were not kittens when I got them. I miss my first cat, Yahoo, most of all. He and I were kindred souls at that time.

  12. So sweet. Am sorry about your cat. I've never had a cat, I've never really liked them, but this one was sweet. My husband's family had two cats that I grew to become quite fond of & when they went I was quite sad. I hope you'll be able to have one again some day soon doll xx

  14. Love your Simba. It is nice even after six years you remember Simba. Love animals in general. However, dont have any pets at the moment. I believe if you own a pet you have to give it all the time.

    1. Even after 6 years, my family is still speaking fondly of Simba, some of her cute acts and how we often bullied her. Yes, being a responsible pet owner is important and one can't just chuck them aside when time isn't on one's hand.

  15. Oh gosh, Jo! I wish I could just reach over and give you a big, big hug. I am so terribly sorry to hear about your loss. I'm not going to be one of those people who says "ohhh don't cry," because I believe that crying is a part of it and being sad will act as a sort of passage between your pet's death and acceptance. I hope that you cope well, though. <3 Man, if only I could bake you some cookies and send them over! Sigh.

I know what it's like to lose a pet, and I know the feeling of not wanting to get another pet... but it's not replacement, and just think of how amazing you've made a pet's life opposed to if you hadn't been with it at all. :)

    1. After 6 years, I've already coped well but the initial part was so difficult. I kept crying and crying and remembering that she would no longer be sleeping under my table while I studied or calling out to me. Your last line makes so much sense. Thank you.

  20. Blah, this post made me tear up.
My mom/dad say the same thing about our dog, that she's the only one that greets them when they come home LOL
But my dog's death is something I think of often, even though she's still young. It's hard to let go of things we love, but it's always nice to look back and think of the good times/memories made.
