If we take it one step back, half my grandparents are from China, which makes me half Viet + half Chinese, hah.

LOLWHAT. HOW DID THEY GET JAPANESE FROM LOOKING AT YOUR GUYS? (I mean, I suppose it is rude to guess people's ethnicity based on their appearances though) Yeah, I found out that night that English was the main language in Singapore, which is kinda weird to me! I really should dig into the nation's history to find out why though.Vanessa Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16500757767135240306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-66021128271693061942015-04-03T13:42:01.764+08:002015-04-03T13:42:01.764+08:00Vanessa! Ah, you're so nice to never forget. I love to return favours too and I'm always thankful when people do the same. So your country of origin is HK, you live in Canada and you are part Chinese and Vietnamese? That's so interesting. Oh for those HKgers who live in HK, they would know quite a bit about Singapore. When Asians meet overseas, somehow the HK and the SG always tend to click better. Haha... Our official language in English, that's why all the Singapore blogs you see are in English. I agree about knowing more languages. It is always good to pretend you don't know anything when people are talking about you in a language that you understand, thinking that you don't. Some PRCs spoke in Mandarin about my hubby and me when we were overseas thinking that we were Japanese. They weren't talking anything bad though so I just continue pretending.
Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03809710184123691858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-6759894391662484832015-03-19T10:49:51.924+08:002015-03-19T10:49:51.924+08:00ALRIGHT, THIS RESPONSE IS LIKE, 5-ISH MONTHS LATE ...ALRIGHT, THIS RESPONSE IS LIKE, 5-ISH MONTHS LATE (time flies, man, it flies, and I'm going to devote my night catching up on your blog because it's been a very long while!) But anyways, you left a comment on my own '10 facts about me' post back in November when I was on blogging hiatus, so it's only fair that I check out your own version! (I NEVER FORGET)

I have to say, I know diddly squat about Singapore--I MEAN....WHAT LANGUAGE DO YOU GUYS EVEN SPEAK THERE? (BRB Google)(This is what happens when the only Singapore blogs I read are in English, so I'm assuming English has to be a major language there) When I was younger, I went to classes for Mandarin, but my Mandarin is absolutely atrocious, and I'm forever in awe of my parents being able to speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese...with pretty good proficiency. Unlike me, where my Cantonese comes out all weird and accented, hah (THAT WILL COME TO BITE ME LATER IF I DECIDE TO GO BACK TO HONG KONG ONE DAY, I SWEAR)(Luckily though, English is a major language in HK but knowing different languages is nice just in case somebody decides to smack talk you not realizing you understand the language, hah)Vanessa Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16500757767135240306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-27373111738364664392015-01-11T09:22:37.212+08:002015-01-11T09:22:37.212+08:00I'll look into Freshkon lenses thank you! Ooh that sounds awful. :( Yeah, sometimes certain conditions happen and you get unlucky. The blog you see is my current one haha, I'm just very... slow with updates because I don't get to go on as much as I'd like (which explains this super late response sorry ><) I am on instagram more than blogger - I think because of the ease and quickness that I can see and share content on school nights.I hope to find a better balance and blog a bit more this year though. So touched that my old blog friends have come here (maybe coz I "forced" you all... haha) to share with me more about yourself coz I would most often be referring back to this post in case I forget anything about you and other blog friends.

Haha... I sure hope that I have elves and minions and dwarfs helping me to do the many things on my list. They would be really useful. Actually I've slackened in blogging a lot. I've been wanting to update about all my travels and months became years. =( I just can't find the time but I try to make it a point to post once a week or at least fill my blog with "filler" post (those that don't require editing of photos and crafting of paragraphs) to keep the cobwebs from forming. It really is an effort to blog but coz it is a hobby, I make a point to keep up with it. I hope you find the time and energy too!

I hope we continue to stay in touch and have a wonderful holiday season! =)Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03809710184123691858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-79982537035526570952014-12-07T20:41:20.708+08:002014-12-07T20:41:20.708+08:00So glad to see you here, Sandy! I thought you might probably have moved over to Canada when you were young. It's great to be able to speak 2 dialects! I'm always in awe when people know many languages and dialects. (justification) Wow how time flies, you're right that we've known each other through our blogs for a few years now! However you've clearly been able to keep up with blogging while my blog ethics has just fallen off the charts. How do you do it? What's your secret? Are you a magical girl that transforms every 2-3 days whose magical powers include whipping up blog posts, editing and uploading photos? Or maybe you have a secret team of cute dwarfs that do the work for you and you reward them with scones and jam?

You probably know this about me already but I'm Canadian born Chinese, Cantonese speaking. I'm so happy that you keep blogging as it gives me inspiration to keep blogging too. I'm hoping to draft up a blog post by tonight since I'm in the mood.

I hope you're having a wonder beginning to this month of Christmas!Manahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13038977364952640480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-23230361409562711372014-12-04T04:01:14.468+08:002014-12-04T04:01:14.468+08:00Hi Jo

I'm a CBC (Chinese born Canadian), i've been born and raised in Toronto, Ontario my whole life. My parents are both from Quang Zhao, China. I can speak catonese, english, and my parent's dialect (don't know the name of, but i only speak it at home). My cantonese is still pretty bad, but i can speak and listen, cannot write or read though except for my own name. My Mandarin is very minimal, close to non existant actually...but i can listen better than speaking it.
Write now i am very facinated with the japanese culture and so i am self learning how to speak the language in hopes of going there one day.mizzsandychauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14443196122774639782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-74838344689912405372014-11-29T20:41:10.525+08:002014-11-29T20:41:10.525+08:00At least to me for 1st impression on your profile ...At least to me for 1st impression on your profile pic, you look like you had mixed Caucasian, Indian, Chinese blood! now that I see more photos of you on IG, you look like you have Indian and Chinese blood. lolJohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03809710184123691858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392001.post-76123366591056323132014-11-27T16:57:40.458+08:002014-11-27T16:57:40.458+08:00Haha no worries, I often am mistaken as Chinese. ...Haha no worries, I often am mistaken as Chinese. I’m glad to be your only Singapore blog friend but I hope you get to know more of my fellow people. If I do get to visit Germany I must read up more on Bavaria coz you seem to be living in a beautiful picturesque backdrop each time I visit your blog. What a beautiful place. Thank you for your sweet words and for always typing to me in English. I really appreciate it. Which marriage quote are you referring to? I didn’t write any quote in this post unless you meant in my “About the Author” page? What an interesting question! I work in the government sector in the defence line and I won’t say no more than that. It’s a secret. Lol. I understand how difficult it is to blog as a working mum so don’t feel obliged to. Instagram is really more instant and less work. I sure hope we continue to keep up with our friendship whether on any platform and that you don’t disappear one day like our good friend Peh Sun and many other mutual blog friends from years ago who don’t seem to be around anymore. I know about your Thai roots but I didn’t know the part about your dad being a Chinese and that you used to know Mandarin. I think most of us don’t end up working what we studied for. I wished I could speak my dialect fluently and it is so good that you speak Cantonese. Yes, Guangdong is Cantonese. And being provincial, it is also related to dialect. My paternal grandparents come from Fujian and my maternal come from Chaozhou. So I’m Hokkien and Teochew but we follow our father’s dialect when known officially. TVB dramas are still interesting from the number of friends watching. But I guess English dramas are for me (and us?) anytime. Speak Mandarin to me next time! Lol… I’m so glad I know more about you from this post. But it is still very funny how they think Cantonese is a race or ethnicity from the way they asked. Thanx for sharing! I must make a mental note that you have Vietnamese roots. You write good English. I would always tell my Italian readers/ blog friends about how I love Italy. So sweet of you to marry the love of your life and relocate to a foreign land. I hope your hubby dotes on you a lot since you have got no closed ones with you in this foreign country. What an interesting question you asked! Singapore is one of the Asian country which uses English as a medium for teaching (and I’m so glad for that). English is our 1st language here and 2nd language or rather Mother Tongue would be the language of our ethnicity. So since I’m Chinese, I’m supposed to be effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin but I’m a lot more comfortable conversing in English than Mandarin. Yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly on the communicating, the close friendship forged on the Internet and how it feels like we have wonderful friends all over the world. I love the Internet for this! Thanx for your compliments. My coloured contacts is Freshkon disposable monthly. Those are the best so far. The last I had cornea infection was when I was wearing Geo lens but I don’t think it is just about the brand. I was probably unfortunate at that time. Thank you for sharing with me about yourself. I find that I know you better. Lots of Chinese born in Indonesia do not know how to speak Mandarin I realise. It’s great that you know so many languages. I’m always in awe of people who know at least 3 languages. I tried to visit your blog but both on your profile are pretty outdated. I was wondering if you have other blogs? I would love to connect with you on your blog as well coz I find it so meaningful when it is 2-way. Have a good weekend! It's always thrilling to know another Singaporean (ok I still consider you a Singaporean or maybe ex-Singaporean?) coz it is pretty hard to find another Singapore "lang" on blogosphere! So nice to know about our similarities. Ah, I just visited the Peranakan museum in Singapore and I do enjoy the trip so much. It is so cool that you could understand so many languages and you're right about Hokkien being very funny (most prob because it sounds so crude in funny when heard in local movies).
