Checking out Brazil Churrascaria

As a belated birthday treat for kh, we went to check out Brazil Churrascaria on Saturday. It was quite a colourful experience since we had no prior knowledge to how this whole “buffet” concept works. A nice aunty waitress explained to us how to go about getting our food.

No photo taken on that day as it was almost impossible to take pictures of the food since our plates were constantly topped up with meat, meat and more meat.

Step one would be to take our empty plates and head for the salad bar. The salad bar is not all greens and raw. There is certainly a wide variety of food just at the salad bar alone. Besides the usual greens, pasta and potato salad, there was also pulpy pomelo sacs, fried banana fritter (which resembles nothing like our local goring pisang) and many fruity accompaniment which we don’t know their names but just ate anyway. The salad bar was good as a meal so we were careful not to heap our plates too much or we would not have enough space for the meat which would come later.

When we returned to our seats, 3 different types of sauces, together with miniature cheese bread was served. I simply LURVE the miniature cheesebread! After we had settled down, the meat came raining onto our plates.

A friendly Passador (meat waiter) will come to your table with a large skewer of one type of meat and starts slicing pieces onto your plate with a sharp knife. While you're finishing it, another skewer will appear at your table with another type of meat. This continues for the rest of the night until your stomach surrenders and refuses to eat anymore.” - Makansutra

There were many different selections of succulent meat and we didn’t get sick of the taste of them that quickly as the different types of meat were marinated with different sauces. We didn’t get to try any of the fish for we were already very full by the time the fish skewers came. I particularly like the beef topside (medium rare on the inside and oh so juicy) and chicken hearts.

There was this ang mo Passador who was very cute. Armed with his skewer of chicken hearts, he approached us and enquired if we wanted what sounded like “chee3 sin2”. We could not make out what he was uttering but we saw what looked like chicken hearts (we heard that dish was good) and so nodded enthusiastically. He then dropped four little hearts onto our plates each. I thought he was speaking in the Brazilian tongue while kh figured he was trying to say “ji1 xin1” (chicken heart in Mandarin). We later concluded that it might be some Brazilian language after all. Afterwards, the same ang mo came with his grilled pineapple and announced “huang3 li2” in the most ang mo accented Mandarin instead of “huang2 li2” and pork ribs as “pai3 gu2” instead of “pai2 gu3”. With that, we confirmed that he was speaking in Mandarin.

We had a 2nd change of plates as our meal got too meaty and we were dying to finish the slices of meat on our plates so that we could go get the greens to balance it off. This time, I heaped my plate with green lettuce, blanched broccoli, some deliciously fried leaves, huge scoops of pomelo sacs and some tomato to add a splash of red to the otherwise bland greens and white. I personally liked the pomelo as a balance coz it isn’t those really sweet kind and it has a neutralizing effect for the overtly tasty meats. The lettuce tasted like it was drenched in pesticides and the broccoli was too filling. Also good would be the grilled pineapple slices for they served as refreshing interval breaks from the meat.

The Passadors did not approach our table as often as before and we were wondering if it was due to the colour of our plates. The 2nd change of plates were yellow instead of green. After a few more slices of meat, we could not down anymore meat and decided to wait for the chicken hearts. So far we had each eaten eight (they came in multiples of four) and had not seen any skewer with chicken hearts for a long time. When that cute ang mo appeared with some other meat, kh asked if there were anymore chicken hearts and he promised to get them for us. He soon forgot about us as he appeared with the hearts but did not come anywhere near us. He served all the new diners instead. Guessed our plates were really colour coded after all. Once again when he appeared at our table with yet another chunk of meat, we enquired about the chicken hearts. He smiled, went into the kitchen and pushed down all the little hearts from the skewer onto our plates such that I had 7 and kh had 6. Excellent service but who knows, he may be waiting for us to eat chicken hearts till we puke and die. In the end I got so sick of the chicken hearts that I shoved the remaining to kh.

The total bill came up to $96.74.

Food: * * * *

Ambience: * * *
(Buzzing crowd and totally non conducive for conversation since waiters approach your table every few minutes. But that is how it works.)

Service: * * * * Warm, friendly and hospitable

Price: Reasonable if you are a meat-lover or huge eater.

The “Boy” Downstairs

My Malay neighbours who live on the 2nd floor have a white Persian cat. Its name is “Ah Boy” and he used to be Simba’s good friend/ boyfriend until Simba moved in with us and became a house cat. Sometimes, when Ah Boy is let out of the house, he would walk up to our door to find Simba. He is a very cowardly cat who would run away upon realizing that we have discovered him on our floor. A few days ago, he became bolder and followed me up. When I “invited” him into the house, he crept in uncertainly while I closed the door behind me (for I didn’t want Simba to run out). He started “moaning” for help and Simba came running.

I stood aside, feeling so proud of myself for setting up this reunion of cats. They sniffed each other for a long time and without warning, Simba scratched Ah Boy! Poor Ah boy! He nearly jumped out of his fur while I scolded and beat Simba at the same time, opening the door to let Ah boy escape from her.

Ah boy did run out of the door as quickly as his furry legs could carry him, but he lingered outside the door for what seemed like eternity. He could not bear to go and kept rubbing his scent all over the gate and plants.

I tried to capture a picture of his cute sad face but couldn’t.

A not-so-cute-sad-faced Ah Boy.

Finally he decided to peel himself off our territory and turned his back on us.

A few seconds later, he turned back to take a peek at us.

Then he disappeared behind the wall where the staircase is. Just when I was about to close the door, he popped his cute little face out once more. This is zoomed to the maximum.

Poor Ah Boy!

Naughty baba

Baba must have scolded Ah Boy for not visiting her for a long time. Or not bringing her flowers and cookies.

My reflections: World Cup 2006

First and foremost would be “Why didn’t I bet this year???!!!”
I made a couple of “predictions” accurately. Well, they can’t exactly be called predictions coz they were based on my ungrounded, silly and bimbotic theories. Even kh deemed my theories silly. Silly theories that turned out accurate. We were like sms-ing each other from Singapore to Brunei throughout the matches which I’ve caught.

Germany 1 (Germany won 4-2 on penalty)
Argentina 1
I supported both teams almost equally. Just that I prefer host Germany to win. So since I could not decide, if I were to buy, it would be a draw. And if I were to buy the number of goals, it would be 1-1. I don’t know what were the odds for these bets. Just hope it isn’t too much to make me feel like it’s such a pity I didn’t bet.

England 0
Portugal 0
(Portugal won 3-1 on penalty)
Although England has got many hunks and I simply love drooling at all the beautiful WAGS, I’ve supported Portugal from 4 years ago and would stick to that. Also, England is well-known to falter during World Cup. So I told kh that Portugal would win. It did. But only on penalty. I “predicted” correctly but if I were to bet, I would have lost since it is considered a draw.

Portugal 0
France 1

My support for Portugal wavered. Outwardly supporting them yet rooting for France coz I feel that they deserved to be in the finals more than Portugal. If I were to bet, it would be 0-1. Since I wanted France to win, I would not have bought a draw and 1-2 is simply too many goals being still amazed at the number of zeros in World Cup 2006. So I would have won on both France winning and the number of goals.

Germany 3
Portugal 1

I was very upset when channel 5 did not screen this match!!!!! I dragged myself up from bed at 3.05am to kh’s wake up call and slumped myself on the sofa. Only to be greeted with GOLF. “Live” some more. So I waited till 3.30am and msged kh if the match had started. It was going on at that time and I was cursing and swearing at Mediacorp coz I had a hard time going back to sleep. (I suffer from insomnia)

I’ve wanted to catch it more than the finals coz Germany was in it. I think the Germans are very manly and they seldom play dirty. I also enjoyed looking at the coach. Jurgen Klinsmann yes? By now I have lost much support for Portugal and would have bought Germany win. However I would not win on the number of goals since I would not expect Germany to score THREE goals!

Italy 1 (Italy won 5-3 on penalty)
France 1
I was soooo exhilarated when the gu niang cheaters Italian bastards won. I gave them this name ever since their match with Germany. I can’t stand them clutching their heads, legs, groins, armpits wherever… whatever… and writhe in pain each time there was or there wasn’t contact. While they were still writhing in agony, the Germans stood up like MEN and started running after the ball.

Despite them being gu niang cheaters Italian bastards, I supported them for the finals. Indeed, they have played very well. Minus all their cheating tactics, they truly deserved to win the cup. With their skills, they could and would have won it without underhand means. I told kh that I would prefer gu niang cheaters to win more than old boring French. I don’t know why, I just like to side baddies. Oh yes, I like that Italian Buffon goalkeeper and their handsome bald captain as well. Fabio Cannavaro yes?

Yet on the other hand, my cool cat ZZ was on the other team. So I thought the old boring French should win and retire in glory, especially ZZ. Since I was indecisive, I would have bought a draw. IT WAS A BLOODY $2.85 (offered by SingPool) FOR DRAW can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine the $$ I could have won.

However, ultimately, I wasn’t happy because Italy won per se but rather, after World Cup 2006, they would have overcome their stigma of doing badly in penalty shoot outs. I was so ecstatic when I saw their 5 shots in. My heart went out for that French guy who missed by a little when the ball hit the top of the post and landed out of the line. Also for the French goalkeeper. But when there are winners, there are definitely losers so just be happy that Italy won. =)

The whole world is talking about Zidane’s head butting incident. I want to be the whole world too.
Zidane should have ended his international career and leave the world stage a hero and shine. Instead, he ended his international career with a splash of red and left the world stage downgraded to zero and grime. I was shocked speechless when I saw the head butting. Why did my cool cat ZZ do that? That Italian mozzarella cheese may have said something really degrading and offensive but ZZ should have kept his cool. It is the WORLD CUP for goodness sake. Not some back alley football.

A few seconds after the incident, kh’s sms came. “Your favourite player just did something very stupid.”

He really deserved to be sent out in shame no matter how I like him. And it was just 10minutes till the whistle blew. Can’t he just hold on a little more? Yeah yeah I know. It’s human nature to flare up when provoked, but he could have done anything to mozzarella cheese after the match. Or else then, since he has already intended to head butt, why the chest? Just aim for the groin la. In this way, his sending off would be more well deserved and even I would have applauded him.

I heard something funny about this incident on Class 95 on Monday morning. The DJ was saying mozzarella cheese might have brought up ZZ’s father and mother to fuel such anger. So in my mind I was thinking in Hokkien all the expletives with father and mother in it. But he went on saying something along this line, “My mother can whip up a better Italian spaghetti than yours!” And Venetta claimed she knew sparked off ZZ’s fury. Mozzarella said, “I’ve got more hair than you.”

Damn funny.

BTW, my MSN nick is “Jo decided to heck care 2nd sis and log in MSN on her comp.”

Remember my fear of disrupting my 2nd sis’s MSN setting since my 1st sis’s comp died?

Then my sis saw me online and “Ooi!” me. Next moment, she changed her nick to “Aleph - Jol's using my comp at home n she's so proud of it tt she announced it on her msn nick!!”

K gotta rush for tuition now. Please don’t scold me for supporting Italy or saying such things about ZZ k? These are just my opinions. =)

On Saturday, I was supposed to catch England vs Portugal…

I ended up at SUBA and Party World instead.

On my way to suba, somebody called out my name. It was one of my secondary school bestie, my first friend in st nicks! I practically screamed, held her hands and danced around with her… like a lunatic. It seems as if for that moment, we were back in girls’ school days. After I recovered from my subconscious state of craziness, I allowed her to speak. The first sentence from her was “I thought I saw an Ah Lian walking alone so I take a closer look and realized it is Jolene.”

Short short shorts only mah. And I know geral will holler, “It’s hot pants not shorts!”

That no good girl!!! She has been back in sg for almost a year and she did not even call me. Apparently, she didn’t seem to have received all my sms-es and even my number was missing from her hp. She was with a friend and she introduced me as “the one I told you about”. So I was like “Shit! What about me? Copying homework together? Cheating in tests together? Pirating together?”

Meet up real soon ya!

I had a hard time getting to millennia walk from marina square as the interior of ms has changed so much. Also, had a tough time getting to suba coz all the entrance of millennia walk was closed.

Only sista geral from the bimbo club was there, together with 2 other of my primary school mates. And my gosh!!! They looked so different! I think my eyes looked very bare in photos without make up. I looked so UGLY!

I like the grainy effect of this photo. The shadow of geral’s cap was casting on her face so I had to brighten this photo a lot resulting in the grainy effect. I SO LOVE HER CAP! It’s übercool!

Next we hopped over to party world for some K-session.

Vincent… when he sang Andy Lau’s song, we thought it was Andy Lau singing! Then when he sang Jacky Cheung’s song, he sounded exactly like Jacky too. He could mimic his voice to sound like every singer. Talented! Posted by Picasa

Oh yes… Vincent has to be my favourite guy in suba. When he realized I did not want to drink coz I had not taken my dinner (at 11+pm), he went to fry some potato wedges, fries and chicken nuggets. To think that before that, he said the kitchen wasn’t opened that night. I felt so pai seh. I worked at a pub before, and I know that when a kitchen isn’t opened, it is very troublesome to prepare food.

Jeremy wanted to take a photo of him with his disfigured forearm. We thought this pose was like so poser-cool and hence followed it. Posted by Picasa

The ultimate ah beng, ah lian song: Mei Fei Se Wu
by geral & jo

I really lurve this ktv-happy-song. All the suba guys must be ex-bengs manz. When the beat and rhythm started, they added the famed “Oooooh oh Ooooh oh” accompaniment. Could not catch their monkey sounds in time. Initially, I had wanted to capture ah lian Sammi’s chio hair but Vincent took the cam from me and captured we 2 pseudo lians instead.
Forgive the horrible singing, as we weren’t really singing but making a fool of ourselves.

My camera was too loaded with pictures that it didn’t have enough space for the video. Wasted! I better start deleting photos now.

I had wanted to do a collage of these shots with picasa but didn’t know how to. Too lazy to use photoshop.

We sang till 5+am and by the time I slept, it was close to 7am. I woke up 1 hour later to go to work and was so amazed that I could tahan the whole of Sunday.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

My comp, I mean my da jie’s comp is down. It totally crashed on Friday. I hope all my photos are still intact. I’m sooooooooooooooooooo depressed. I haven’t backed up all the recent ones. =(

I don’t like using my er jie’s comp as all my files and favourite links are in the other comp. Also, she is very particular. She even complained about my “Jolene Temp” folder which is taking up a yoctopercent of the space in her comp. She made a fuss when I downloaded hello and picasa on her comp (while she was watching High School Musical for the fourth time) and soon disposed them into the bin. I don’t even want to log on to msn for fear of disrupting her “save my e-mail address and password” set-up.

I wish my da jie would repair her comp asap.
